This was a glorious three nights for Haley and she soared. Musically, she is right where my soul lives. I wish jazz is the direction she follows, but it really doesn’t matter because she infuses her jazz styling into her music. Even the songs that aren’t jazz oriented such as “Undone” she nails with her vocal range, power and raw emotion and feeling. She has quite a repertoire of music, not to mention the upcoming Christmas songs, that I am overwhelmed with and that I think will serve her well into the future.

I have to head of to work soon, so I can only spare a moment to jot a quick post. I do have to say a word or two about the unbelievably amazing time I had last night at the Cosmopolitan.

To me, each night's performance built on the one before, as Haley and Co. became both looser and tighter at the same time. Where Friday's show, to me, gave off a definite jazz club vibe, I would say Saturday was more akin to a revival meeting. People were drawn to the Chandelier by the sheer energy emanating from Haley and the band. Where on Friday some people danced in front of the stage, on Saturday folks were really moving in, moving to the beats and very often mouthing the words to each song. The crowd was much larger than on any other night too. Yanni and I figured there had to be several hundred people at least drawn to the magnetism of our Haley.

And the crowd was loud and very appreciative as well,and for good reason. The guys were hotter than ever tonight, with Keith having a grand and inspired night and even Courtney breaking out from the background with some truly kick-ass solos of his own. The absolute magic, of course, was supplied by Haley herself. She seemed to feed off the crowd's energy and gave some of her most spirited and propulsive performances to date. Bennie was never funkier. Mercy was a stomping crowd pleaser. The closing Oh, Darlin' had the audience worked up to a full froth and screaming for more. Haley is a true show-woman, one who can excite an audience and hold them in the palm of her hand.

I was both exhilarated and emotionally touched by Saturday's set. Alternately on my feet screaming and choking back tears, I can say this one had it all, in spades. Haley poured more raw emotion into her interpretations than I have ever seen her do before. The night's Free, for example, was so overwhelming that I was literally fighting back tears. During the jazz set, I chose at times to close my eyes and let the music flow over me like a wave. No visuals necessary. The music was a living, breathing energy flow and carried me to that magic place that only music can. Hold on... I'm getting emotional all over again right now. I'll have to talk about my Haley encounters of the night next time. Unfortunatley, I have to head off to work.

Thanks for that fantastic account. You painted a vivid portrait with words. And left those of us who weren't there regretting we missed such a magical night.

It could be that Haley prefers to save a "Spiderweb" performance to when her dad can play guitar on it like he did on the album and at Lollapalooza.

Thanks so much Swansteel for your powerful description of the three nights’ shows. You and Tusk are quite the storytellers. The performances really built to an unbelievable climax on Saturday night. Wow, can you think what her tour will be like. I want to experience that euphoria like you guys. One day. Can’t wait for your personal Haley encounters.

Wow, I'm Walking On Heaven right now. Swan and Tusk summed it up perfectly in their descriptions of this weekend. I've had the pleasure of seeing Haley live five times now, (if you count this weekend as two nights), and she has never sounded better. I want Haley to sing whatever makes her happy, but as an old guy and a jazz fan I truly enjoyed the jazz sets. Song For My Father actually got me misty eyed. She is always amazing live. I asked her when her next LA gig is, and she said Tuesday. I said "This Tuesday, like in three days?" , and she said yes. It's at a place called the Skybar, I need to research this a little. I asked her why it hasn't been posted on her site, and she and Chiara looked at each other and then said that things will be improving regarding her site.


She is such a warm and gracious person, and truly makes you feel at ease when you are with her. Chiara is also very nice and personable. Talked quite a bit with Keith, and briefly with Courtney. Keith is a cool dude. We talked about other musical stuff he is doing, and he emailed me a link to his CD on Itunes. I am buying it sight unseen. Saturday night especially, he was really grooving with the tunes, and just looked like he was genuinely having the time of his life. Who wouldn't be? Courtney was really alive Saturday, with some awesome snappy, crisp, baselines. Several times in his solos, at the just right moment, he would ever so brielfly pause for a split second before delivering a power note. Had Swan and myself laughing out loud it was so cool.

Along with meeting and having a drink with the most wonderful singer alive today, I also got to hang out with some of the nicest people I've ever met. In no particular order, Tusk, Swan, and Pat are all amazing Haley fans and individuals. Thanks for welcoming me! I had possibly the best night of my life last night. Can't think of anything better at the moment. Wish every fan on this site could have been there.

Damn, so much to say, but I don't have the gift of speech that so many other Haliens have. Hope to be buying a video camera in the near future, so I can help out as well.

Also, I must mention Tim, the "Cool Nebraka Guy" as he came to be known. He did a really, really cool thing for Haley, but asked to keep it quiet and I respect that. But hats off to you dude!
