John, you should have shown Tusk the sepia version of that top picture first to see if he could know it was a red dress anyway !
There is something really interesting about the photo's. I.. think I would perceive the same people as living in a far more different world with far more distant personalities if shown the same subjects in old time black and white.
What's interesting is that I wouldn't say that about present black and white photo's .. which I don't think change my perceptions too much of the people.
Maybe it's sort of a additive things, black and white plus subtley different subject matter might make me "pidgeon hole" the people to a time I have a bias torwards thinking of as more different than it is.
It's funny though as I've grown older and seen more hair styles come and go, and know what it's like to be a 20 and 30 and 40 and now starting on 50 year old that things like the gold miner pictures and historical pictures at ground breakings etc don't have quite the divide that they used to.
... still this color takes it another step.
...other random thoughts
Lavender( edit sorry not lavender bu Wisteria.. although the same might apply to lavender) but was definitely something akin to "stylish" or "hip" back then, as was the little anchor label label that probably conveyed rakish adventure and worldliness etc, not some cliche symbol relegated to childs clothes and even there only a nostalgic nod to the past fashion.
Anyway, thanks for sharing them... I also find them thought-stimulating as I've shown whether on the mark or not lol
