^^ Seeing the live videos of these songs -- this being a good example -- gives me a greater appreciation of the sound and experience Haley was going for with the album. Another great performance by Haley and her perfect band. She struts her stuff to start the show. Those backing vocals with the harmonies are really good. The chemistry with Haley and the band seems ideal. Jacob has some chops. Thanks Tusk - it looks like it was a fantastic show at the Belly Up. It's like Haley has walked through a doorway and achieved a new level of excellence.

BTW, drummer Ray Moore says Haley is wearing a C.O.G.I.C. hat.

When ISCAT, airhigh and I ran into John Notto, I told him I saw him at the Listen Up! eve party at the Hard Rock, remarked about Anderson Paak being their drummer, (former Breezy Lovejoy) and how well he's doing. John talked a bit about music, I don't remember who he was talking about, but it was about a young musician he was really impressed with, how music came easily to the kid, it was instinctive and that John said he himself is not easily impressed...

Then he said this band Haley's gathered is on a whole other level.....

Yah, they kick some major Ass .... I Whole edly approve. The talent at this kind of vocal backup is something Haley has lacked her entire post Idol career...

I had to improve on the original I posted, I hoped to bring out Haley and Jacob's voices more, make them sparkle in this reissue

Wow-superb video and sound,including the "remix" of Black Hole.Band sounding tighter everyday.Haley looking and sounding so confident and love the hat.Thanks again.

I also really like the masked effect top and bottom and the wide enough shot to catch the whole band... don't I personally don't just want to see the singer without the band

as good as a musician might be if they're performing with other musicians on stage the performance is either constrained or lifted by them. I think that goes beyond just how the thing sounds as a whole but also how they do as an individual as there is a give and take. Singing acapela is a whole different ball of wax with the singer having extra responsibilities to carry a rythym but also liberties with that rythym ... another slice of the art form.

IMO, It's not solely quality of the musicians as individual performers but the aspect of their musicality that lyrically interacts with the others .. and hopefully there is a leading idea of a sound , by the director, conductor or band lead that they interact around.

I think Haley's really got something going with this group and that add's to her power to express.

It was interesting to me that this group was able to find what she had been hoping for in "keep comin' back" from ListenUp! Keith connected with Haley's "Now that you're here" in an extremely great way but I'm not sure he's the mix of bluesy-married-with-"let-me-tell-you" (?) vibe that Haley often wants to drift to. And Keith and the bass player Courtney hadn't the chance to play hundreds or even thousands of hours together, and no drummer, like this touring rhythm section trio has.(Notto appeared with them at the same time infrequently too)

Casey seems to connect best with Haley when there is an underlying humor of sorts and or connecting to simple pleasures. (if you listen to the majority of the songs Casey wrote they're quite humorous/playful)Memorable performances with her doing Moanin stand out but there were of course others.. but I think that is more about fun (and great) covers than about Haley writing music to tell the world what she's got inside her.

Like I said in my post a few days ago... I think this is "one" sound that Haley can really run with. I'm sure she's got other styles that this band might not bring out fully, but ... one at a time, full throttle! and this definitely feels "full throttle".

Jacob Lutrell performed/covered "Georgia on my Mind" in his opening act at the Petaluma show ..... we(tv show competition watchers) have seen that song done so many way's over the years including Casey's memorable Hollywood week version (not to mention Ray Charles quintessential versions of it that made the song famous) but Jacob brought his own personal flavor to it in his sorta Rock/funk or whatever you call it way. It had some sweet clear parts and evolved into a jazz/rock fusion sound
... it will be interesting to hear Haley cover some standards with him ... a different sort of reinterpretation that the PMJ reworkings with Scott... not better or worse etc... but perhaps a more modern rather than nostalgic sound?

Where to start, ISCAT & I are still in a trance, what a journey. We feel privileged to have experienced Haley's first headlining show. Even though the first show in Petaluma was incredible beyond our expectations each of the 4 shows we attended was magically better than the previous one. Haley and her band brought heightened nuances and energy that we haven't experienced before and we have seen several live performances. Kudos to the new band members that mesh perfectly with Haley's vocals and musicality. Seeing her live is a must, it's a trip you will never forget Haliens. They bring the audience to a frenzy it almost brings tears to your eyes.

John posted a quote by Michael Nottingham, I conversed with him before and after the show. He brought his teenaged daughter who he said was not as excited as he, that changed, by the conclusion she was a total Halien. He hasn't been a Halien long. This is one artist that you have to see live to appreciate just how good she really is. Her recordings and idol performances are top notch, but her live show is something else altogether. She is mesmerizing and her current band does an incredible job of backing her. The energy is palpable. The big man on drums is a human metronome with a heart as big as he is, with an economy of movement that has to seen to be believed. The bass player pumped the grove, the keys ranged from sweet and articulate to downright funky, and the guitarist had a pallet of never heard before tones coupled with a laid back style that was melodic, tasteful , and when turned loose, he really got down on it. I have seen and some of the best of my generation and this young woman has the goods in spades. Don't miss seeing her if you can help it.
Michael told me he is a musician and he has jammed with well known artists, Neal Young for one. He has attended many concerts and said Haley is the best he has ever seen. There are so many comments like that. Tusk was talking to a regular at Belly Up and he commented that he has watched 35 years of outstanding artists at the venue and Haley was among the best.

It was a joy and pleasure seeing all the Haliens personally most for the first time that we have met through social media. In Petaluma we made arrangements to meet Ken and knew JMT was going and was pleasantly surprised that Tom22 appeared. It was fun feeling their mutual Halien energy and discussing our favorite songs off the Better Album. In San Francisco we bumped into Cecilia, the glitter painting artist who does beautiful Haley work. In LA so many Haliens so much excitement for their first Haley headliner including Jeff, Tim Wright, Collin Moore from Dallas, Rachel, Francesca, Tusk and we met a new Halien Curtis from Alaska. They travel far and wide to bask in the radiance of Haley aurora. Sadly our last Haley blast, Belly Up. My nephew Jason and his fiancé Mindy joined us, their first Haley experience. They kind of had this thing with Tusk they seemed to mesh quite well. Of course they got a pic with Haley but they also got a picture together with Jacob Luttrell & his new fiancé Jeanette something they can always cherish. They are total Haliens after the Belly Up experience. Jason said Mindy woke up the next morning singing all of Haley's "Better" songs.

Getting to know Tusks back story ISCAT and myself would like to thank him for his many contributions to Haley and her fans along with Rachel, Himm, Miguel, John and so many others foreign and domestic. Thanks so much it's a great time to be a Halien.....
