Today, Free inched up to #34 on the Hot AC Mediabase chart. That's her best rank yet, and she's continuing to gain spins every week. There are a few strong players coming up fast behind her, and a few dropping off ahead of her, so she'll probably break even this week. The HAC chart is not as big as the Top 40 chart, so to get a detectable boost in sales she'll need to crack the Top 25 at least.

Still, the fact she's still gaining steady momentum is a positive sign. Free may never be a smash hit, but if it becomes the "Little Engine That Could" 19/Interscope will feel a lot better about investing in her for a top headliner to tour with, and in promotion for her next single.

Don't forget that she has had little to no play in major markets (LA,NY,chicago)

She is getting spins in Chicago now. Last I checked she had 11 this week, and it's been increasing. LA and NY still zilch, but if she can crack the Top 30 maybe they'll give her some love, too.

I had always wished a pro in the business could put some perspective on her music's arc. Is that happening or layperson speculation?

Haleyrious moment today...I was at Physical Therapy rehabbing my right knee. It is a rather large room with maybe 10 other people working out there today. I had to work on the stairs at the far end of the room. There is a little boom box there that can't be heard throughout the whole room, but it can be when you are on the stairs. Lo and behold "Free" is playing, I had to stop and walk over to the box and check the station, it was 97.1 FM Minneapolis, cities97 featuring Aaa radio live. It was the first time I had heard "Free" on the radio. I had made requests on another station, but never bothered to listen to the live feeds. My Physical Therapist asked what was up...I explained who was singing and her background, hoping to win over a new fan.

Cool. Earlier reports said a Minneapolis radio station had been very good to Haley, easily topping the number of spins by any other station.

Makes you wonder if they should be making a stronger push for Free to AAA radio. That station plays it constantly.

"American Idol" may have just wrapped its 11th season, but a familiar face from last year's competition will be here Sunday, May 27, with a new CD. Third-place finisher Haley Reinhart, probably best remembered for her ferocious "Bennie and the Jets," will perform at 2 p.m. at Mall of America's Rotunda. She'll also sign copies of her debut album, "Listen Up," which hit stores this week.
