( The Hotel Calif) The first couple times I saw the videos from this, I would see the "Hotel Cafe" in the title, and for a second would think, it said "Hotel California" (one of my all time favorites), and for a second, think Haley is performing "Hotel California" which would be so (sorry MAE for the over use of the word....) EPIC!!

Haley singing Hotel California, now that would be something. One thing seemed certain at the show, she didn't want to do Free. I can imagine after the hundreds of times she sang it during her early promos, she is eager to sing anything but Free.

Tusk -- you are forgiven (but I do hope that Haley will never ever sing that oh, so wretchedly, overdone song "Hotel California.") The Eagles did so many fine songs -- "Hotel California" was not one of them. I know it was hugely popular, but that only speaks to the questionable taste of those who made it popular.

Well on this we will agree to disagree....sometimes, I think it's too long, but ultimately, love the song and the dual 'solos' at the end by Don Felder and Joe Walsh.

What was wrong with Hotel Calif?

Yep, you're right -- we will need to agree to disagree. I heard this (utterly boring) song far too many times. Let's try to remember: I come first, from listening to classical, then jazz. "Hotel California" lacked any musical aspect that I would/could connect to.
It is overly long, highly repetious, and, while, you, Tusk, may love the song and the dual solos at the end (and many others might agree with you), for me, "Hotel California" is one of those "nails on chalkboard" experiences that I really never want to have go through again.

I don't listen to it much these days, maybe once a year, but 'back in the day' I couldn't get enough of the "Eagles' Southwest sound" (My first years in the US were in AZ), and this was their pentultimate song.
I think they were more guitar based and vocal harmonies more than anything else (rarely jazzy)

And I loved the Eagles wonderful vocal harmonies. You're right --"Hotel California was probably their pentulutimate song. That doesn't actually mean it was good -- it just means it was popular.
"California" didn't do it for me. Absolutely nothing about HC made endeared me to the Eagles, and, it was probably the begining when I knew they'd "sold out." (And, given my connection with musicians [because I'd been one], I hate saying that.)

Love to listen to the Eagles ,Jackson Brown and Linda Ronstadt were a part of them. in the early years. Definitely a lot of collaboration there. Maybe Hotel California wasn't the best but there's definitely a story behind the album.J.D Souther wrote a song on the album(New KId In Town) the Eagles really pioneered country rock.and in the end Don Henley, Joe Walsh, and Glenn Frey all went on to have successful solo careers. Their writing skills and harmonies are epic Also Glen wrote a song called Smugglers Blues that was used in a T/V series. Might have bin Miami Vice?????????? not sure bout tHAT A nother one Glen wrote was, The heat is on used in the picture, Beverly Hills Cop
