Haley reportedly splits with Interscope - Outcast - 11-20-2012
Thought I'd post this here as I'm pretty sure it's gonna spread like wildfire soon. The bad news was delivered by the LA Times:
Quote:Haley Reinhart, the bluesy ingenue who placed third on the 10th season of "American Idol," has parted ways with Interscope Records and 19 Recordings, a source close to the singer confirmed to Pop & Hiss on Tuesday.
The 22-year-old’s post-“Idol” debut, “Listen Up!,” was quietly issued in late May, just as a new victor was crowned. The album debuted at No. 17 on the Billboard 200 after it logged 20,000 copies in its first week, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
“Listen Up!” was one of the stronger post-"Idol” efforts in recent memory. Though her stage presence was often criticized by the judges, the singer's throaty growl showcased during the competition with bold versions of songs from Adele, Alanis Morissette and Elton John was fully embraced on the disc.
Carefully crafted pop hits were traded for depth on the album, which featured the vintage piano-led single “Free.” The disc pushes at the edges of contemporary pop in a way most “Idol” veterans wouldn’t dare with heavy piano lines, horns and bright Motown-inspired dance-pop.
Earlier this year, Reinhart made history as the first former "Idol" contestant to perform at Chicago's Lollapalooza festival. She is currently touring with soul revivalist Allen Stone.
Requests for comment from Interscope and 19 were not returned.

If this is true, while it sucks I admit I was preparing myself for this possibility for a long time now. It's not the end of the world though, Crystal Bowersox and Kellie Pickler got new record deals after they parted ways with Jive/Sony Nashville. Others like Lee DeWyze, David Cook and Kris Allen continue to be active despite being unsigned. Maybe Casey's label will sign her, they're doing a pretty good job with him and he's very busy touring all over the place.

Awww why? It does make alot of sense though since there hasnt been alot of promotion and no second single.
So what will happen now? New record deal with another label?

Possibly but it'll take a least a few months. I think for now she should go home and spend some time with her family, then in the new year she can start writing again and shopping for a new label.

I'm incredibly upset. I know that Haley will bounce back, but how long is it going to take to find a new label. I'm seriously petrified that an Allison Iraheta situation may arise. Haley is too good to disappear.
I guess the good news is that she's still with Ole, so she has songwriting to fall back on.
But, I want more for Haley. People have been suggesting indie labels. I'm just concerned that indie labels might think themselves above an Idol contestant, and I'm not that audience would be receptive.
As always, I'll stay optimistic. I hope Haley know's how much we love her.

I just shot off an email to Harry to say we, her fans, will stick behind her, if the reports are true.
That she will be able to draw from the lessons He and Patti have taught their daughter about work ethic and making a living as a performer.
Now how significant is it that she has writing credits on all those songs for Ole to promote?
Our girl's tough and I'm sure she knew that this was not going to have it's share of bumps to overcome. It would have been nice if she hit right away and became a big mega star out of the gates, but we know life doesn't work that way.
Sad news, and definitely a blow, but, like they say, one door closes and another opens.
Upwards and onwards to bigger and better

I do hope for the best out of this for Haley.Life can deal some crappy hands. but she has her family and fans to back her up. And a Indi lable isn't a bad thing.

Yeah. Regardless of whether Haley saw this coming (and I'm assuming she was since she's a sharp cookie), this is going to be a blow.
I'm torn about whether she should charge forward until Christmas or whether she should recuperate. Luckily, she at least has Ole, and hopefully she'll find new management pronto since 19M are the most incompetent fools in the world.
With those two behind her, she should be able to shop around labels, and find a good one hopefully.

I don't know anything about this music industry, but still, I felt that after Free settled where it did, they totally quit promoting her. I thought Free came out at a lousey time and it seemed to me that after that crappy birdcage thing on AI, that things started downhill from the Interscope end of things right then.
I'm quietly hopeful that there could be something in her near future, just simply based on who she is and how respected she's appearing to be amongst those who have connected with her in her early attempts to break out.
I think Interscope actually has held her back and now hopefully someone that will work for her interests will really enable her to succeed. So, I'm taking this news as a positive for her actually. She's especially unique, beautiful, smart, talented beyond comprehension and matured beyond her years.. So I know that she's going to be very successful.. Hell she's still only what 22? Keep the faith Haliens!
