Missed Opportunities - Haley Fan-atic - 09-27-2017 On July 14, 2017 I checked the view count on two YouTube channels featuring Haley's cover of "I Can't Help Falling in Love." Here are the results then and now: 1. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zZkih54evUs 18,014,435 views - 7/14/17. Today's view count: 19,239,825. A gain of 1,183,895 views. This is a channel featuring only Haley's song and has grabbed 17,000 subscribers as a result. 2. Lyric video - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=npwHNcGqueE 11,180,045 on 7-14-17. Today's view count: 14,156,664. A gain of 2,976,619 views. So far, Haley has lost over 33 million views on these two channels alone. And, 4 million of those were in the last two months. As a Haley fan, it pains me to see her most successful song not included in her channel. Those added views and subscribers would help launch "What's That Sound" for example. If I were Haley, I would not lose another day and put a copy of "I Can't Help Falling in Love" in her channel. And, while this may not be Haley's style I would either get visible links to her songs and channels at the sites above, or do take-downs. Those are my thoughts. What are yours? Haley makes money by Ole and Concord monetizing the ads on the videos on my channel.....are you suggesting people, who aren't copyright owners, should start a tactic of randomly issuing take down notices as something to 'help' Haley? Haley seems to like what I do to help support her, it's taken many hours and $$ for me to do what I do....what you suggest also applies to my channel? PS Ole collects $$ by putting ads on those videos that "pain" you as well aka puts money in Haley's pocket.... RE: Missed Opportunities - Miguel - 09-27-2017 Addressing the subject at hand... I think including "Can't Help Falling in Love" on her channel is a great idea if Wrigley is open to it. Pretty sure it was a "work for hire" and they own the rights to it. As such, they're also the ones who would have the authority to enforce those rights against those who post digital recreations of the studio version. Videos of performances captured by concertgoers are generally considered an original work. Same reason videos showing a recording of a tv broadcast captured by a handheld phone remain while those that were captured directly by devices like a VCR are removed. RE: Missed Opportunities - Haley Fan-atic - 09-27-2017 Tusk, your channel was not mentioned in my post. I understand that you and she work together and you have permission to post her videos. Since you mentioned ad dollars, who gets those on the two channels mentioned? Certainly not Haley. Additionally, I am not suggesting that non-copy right holders start take downs. Assuming that Haley has no rights to the song, she certainly can and should include the song in her channel. Or do you disagree? RE: Missed Opportunities - Tusk - 09-27-2017 I think Haley is fully aware of the value of her performances, after these many years, we see where she puts her emphasis, hires others to take care of other things, like Ole and her management teams... The prospect of people going around putting claims willy nilly on videos, IMO would be counter to what we see from Haley up to this point. Collecting on royalties for their clients/employees is what Ole does, if they had an objection or opinion to the varied posts on Youtube using their property, they would take care of it. It is literally what they do... I'm just not a fan of these fan driven guerrilla tactics. It seems a shame that others can post her song (I can't Help Falling in Love) and benefit from it. What's more, the sites mentioned do not link to purchase links. However, I can understand why it would not be on her channel if it would upset Wrigley. If that is the case, I will worry about something else. LOL Again, thanks for your response. Every large event starts small RE: Missed Opportunities - Miguel - 09-27-2017 I think she has a good relationship with Wrigley. Since they are seemingly okay with the copies -- probably welcoming the exposure -- they might approve of Haley posting their version to her channel. It then becomes a question of whether Haley wants to do so -- she might consider it too commercial. Will be curious to see what happens with the "Time of My Life" recording for WM. I suspect if it's made available it will be through downloads and streams, but not a video. (09-27-2017, 04:36 PM)Haley Fan-atic Wrote: Miguel, sorry I did not grasp your message. Simply an acknowledgment that what is said here is unlikely to change much in the outside world. My thoughts were solely about the studio version of "I Can't Help Falling." My intention was to suggest an idea to bring more views to Haley's channel. Additionally, my want was to understand why the song wasn't included in Haley's channel. I am beginning to see the hurdles. Thanks to everyone for their feedback. I'm off to listen to Haley's music. |
