RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - lovinghaleyr - 10-18-2017 Vs. Who's the winner?IMHO Haley by far ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - Himm2 - 10-18-2017 I'd much rather have Haley's boots walk all over me than Miley Cyrus's. It would be more like a giggling happy light-weight massage vs. Miley digging her stilettos into me and making me suffer. I prefer Haley upbeat songs that make the best of a situation than injecting more suffering in the world. RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - Tusk - 10-18-2017 Lyndsey Parker suggested in the recent Yahoo interview that maybe Haley and Blake could perform "Time of the Season" at one of PMJ's shows since they're both Idol alumni. Haley deftly inserted Casey into the conversation, saying that it'd be cool if She Blake and Casey could do it ![]() Time of the Season, at the 'time', was one of Blakes' break out performances that made him a front runner for his season vs Jordan Sparks. I think it's pretty well known TOTS is one of my favorite, if not my favorite song on WTS, so I'm kind of biased, though I can objectively say it seems Blake is slightly off timing/rhythm in his performance of it, which could be on purpose as a function of being a beat boxer and playing around w/ tempo, timing and tone.... I think Haley and Casey's rendition has the correct tempo for the song, as Blake's treatment lends a 'tension' to the song, no real 'flow', instead of the airy, psychedelic and easy going vibe of Caley's version, of which THE Zombies approved ![]() **Edit I replaced Blake's Idol performance w/ the studio version to make it a more fare comparison. His tempo doesn't sound as off in his studio recording of the song ![]() Listening to his studio version makes me wonder if his seemingly off tempo performance on Idol might have to do w/ not hearing the music on stage? RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - john - 10-18-2017 I watched Blake's live version and didn't get why it was such a "breakout" performance for him. Seems rather pedestrian. RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - Tusk - 10-18-2017 I think it was because it was when he started 'singing' rather than relying on his beat boxing... I think it could be why he sounds a bit off rhytym to me in his live performance, possibly he was concentrating/focusing on his singing vocals which threw off his timing OR, like I said, maybe he had ear monitor issues and couldn't quite get into rhythm w/ what he was hearing..... You can see how he doesn't really 'sing' the lyrics as much as sing w/ control.... according to Wiki, his studio version: "Time of the Season", The Zombies' hit in 1968, reached number 67 on the Billboard Hot Digital Songs RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - mercfan3 - 10-18-2017 I always enjoyed Blake, but, IMO, TOTS wasn't one of his strengths. It's not his style of music, and his voice was very clear instead of the lighter tone you need. I'm not a huge Casey fan, but him and Haley tend to do wonderful things together musically. TOTS is one of my favorites off the album, and I didn't expect it to be. RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - Tusk - 10-18-2017 What's also up for comparison is the engineering on both tracks. I know Blake's is 10 years ago and I'm sure there've been many advances that an audio 'noob' like myself couldn't begin to understand, but it's quite striking what the same track in more experienced, talented hands can produce. The sound and ambiance of the engineering in Haley's cover is, no doubt, superior than the one Idol put out for Blake..... Haley waited to sign for this reason. In recent interviews she had hinted at having multiple offers on the table, I'd love to have heard the negotiations going on w/ Concord, what was promised, who suggested she work w/ esteemed engineers....did Haley know of them? Or did she tell Concord what she specifically wanted and Concord gave her suggestions of who they think could work for her..... In other words, She chose wisely ![]() RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - mercfan3 - 10-23-2017 Sawyer does a great cover of "House of The Rising Sun" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xSw5EAToujE Something about Sawyer's voice is..I can't explain it, I can just feel it. Easily one of the most talented children to ever appear on one of these shows (and remains the only contestant that was my favorite that one..of course, he was a co-favorite, and the equally talented 15 year old girl was eliminated in the first round). His biggest talent is in his song writing, however. Musically, he has Haley's spirit. IMO. Very old school. Very pure. Love this cover, but no one sings it like Haley. RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - john - 12-20-2017 Chloe Kohanski - "Call Me" Haley RE: Haley Reinhart versus The World - mercfan3 - 12-20-2017 Love both <3 (although I'd say both performances fit the category of "Solid" but not "great") Haley's is very much a really energetic take on a fun song. You can tell she's having a blast while singing it. Chloe's is a tribute to Blondie (one of her favorite singers), where a slow build grows to a feistiness at the end. Although both having strong rock influences, they're from different generations of rock that occasionally intersect (Chloe - late 70s/early 80s, Haley late 60s/early 70s) - I am a little surprised we haven't gotten a Haley/Casey cover of Total Eclipse of The Heart though. |
