I could imagine a person not liking the blues from aspects of what the music "says".
And I don't mean lyrics because I think melody, meter, and well, demeanor of the music carry's a lot of meaning without a word being understood. The voice is still important but they could be singing in Portuguese and you'd get a feel for the emotions being expressed.

Think if you were a great illustrator or animator. If you drew an animation figure walking down the street, or shaking hands with you, or smiling you'd draw that differently to express different sorts of music (if your assignment was draw the figure this music represents)

There is an human attitude to each kind of music and Hayden expresses a lot different set of mores than blues does for instance. All sorts of music types might express love or sadness but love or sadness can have so many flavors.

Also, I think that blues fundamentally has a strong gospel root and blues songs exude things like faith, and destiny and envision a sort of rapture at the end of a persons days. That isn't a religious notion all people favor in the same way but I really think that blues has something of a unified religious notion behind it.

That isn't necesarily denominational because certainly people of different religions can appreciate blues, but of course different people within a single denomination can have different views than the person sitting next to them on a pew.

Long and short, blues has a personality type and world view and perhaps a flavor of faith behind it and I could very easily see some people finding some segments of it off-putting towards their sense of what is good and right to aspire to etc.

That's my 35 cents. I love gospel based blues, but I certainly wouldn't argue that all people should like it.
