I saw the Captain & Tennille in concert in Daytona Beach Florida after graduating from college in 1975. A college buddy & I celebrated graduation with a road trip there and we stayed with 4 friends of his brother's girlfriend all in one large hotel room. Those were the days my friends, we thought they'd never end, we'd sing & dance, forever and a day... I really dig this ! I think that this duo could work financially as an opening act for many many types of bands because of qualities that a headliner wants in terms of preparing an audience for the "real" act on top of it being very high quality and musically interesting to many true musicians at heart I believe. ... but hey, I"m a "jam band" kind of guy,, and that's how I'd define this music. It's techno jam and in my book it has no connection to SMYM which is techno dance...techno is like an intrument and all music using guitars aren't the same genre (ok that was a why analogy) Santana's connection to jazz was mentioned in another thread. I connected Haley to Santana in that mashup video I did....to me an electric guitar wail is the same as a trumpet rift... someone can wear tie-dies like the greatful dead, or suits and thin ties like Louis armstrong, cowboy shirts like the Alman Brothers , or too tight jeans and at ripped t shirt like Van Halen but the defining and unifying element to a jam band "genre" is a trance inducing poly-rhythm or deeply shuffled groove in which the musicians ad lib an interplay of theme and variation with a blues based chord structure. Oops... I slipped. I just got to laugh at people who'd even remotely call this a "sell out" (no one here feels that of course!). To me it is quite complicated with lots of subtle ironies but.. to other's it's "aimless" as its far from a linear trip with any conclusion or single point to it. "jazz" is too complicated a term to define in a way that people agree on... I have mixed feelings about using the word... not all jazz jams imo and its like the jazz genre and the country genre of the alman brothers or grace potter isn't the defining thing but those two are connected to a grateful dead or carlos santana in ways other rockers or countryish artists aren't and in recent years is applying to some techno groups and even some(not all) hip hop sounds. .. .my "jam band" clasification of it is subject to disagreement too. evidently "jam band" just won't agree on any definition... some try to define it by culture, others by atttendance and propesity for people making live recordings ( ![]() it's really long and people would probably get lost in the first 2/3ds with grateful dead references so I'll quote a bit of the bottom of it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jam_band Quote:2004–present[edit] After that it moves into an interesting discussion of copyright law and fan recordings etc. RE: Sonic Bloom and collaboration with The Human Experience - Tom22 - 09-23-2014 (09-23-2014, 04:18 PM)john Wrote: Let's try that again -- Those first one was so far off. So I found much of this on IDF by nowitsfound I'll take a shot at that missing verse I think you've got the words pretty right start to finish .. good job. "Thats where I sweep in, Won't you stop me before ?we (?Tell this?) again ? My interpretation is that it's literal meaning is about a girl or guy making a pass at someone while they happened to encouter someone and flirting.... but knowing at they flirted that the other was involved with someone else (not like married necessarily, more like confusing someone on the fence with someone else?) In the more literal take I'd make the "take me prisioner" is more like "I should be punished for this" (which is sort of a suggestive sort of way of putting that) with a bit of hyperbole "I really belong on a desert island for this ... you should take me there" haha --- metaphorically I feel its like a yearning to be mischevious and tasting the pungently flavorful complications of mood doing something slightly out of what is the straight and narrow creates.....tasting what you want then tasting and willingly navigating the aftermath? ? lol ok I like this sort of poetry... ... I don't really form those ideas concretely in my mind.... I just feel a certain mild sort of indulgence to do what you want despite apologizing and willing to face some consequences. (everyone can of course have it mean something else to them.. just the feel to me) RE: Sonic Bloom and collaboration with The Human Experience - maxit10 - 04-24-2015 Hi im kind of a low key halien so i don't post that often but i just wanted to show everyone how i was checking the human experience website and i found an Instrumental with Haley's voice in it... http://thehumanexperience.bandcamp.com/album/raw-sugar-valentines-day-mix the song with her starts around 11:00 minutes and it's track number 4 in the mix. RE: Sonic Bloom and collaboration with The Human Experience - john - 04-25-2015 Nice find Maxit. I've come to think of Haley's David Block experience as a kind of a "what I did on my summer vacation" thing. But Haley's voice sweetly looping around would make a fine soundscape for any day. RE: Sonic Bloom and collaboration with The Human Experience - Tusk - 04-25-2015 This is one of those things that make me think of quantum physics and parallel dimensions, where one takes a right turn instead of a left.... (Scott Bradlee or David Block?) ![]() There's a universe where Haley's hitch hiking w/ Block to their next festival ![]() (not being facetious, if you follow David on Twitter, he's been known to ask his followers if they can give him a lift to his next gig...) RE: Sonic Bloom and collaboration with The Human Experience - mercfan3 - 04-25-2015 I was wondering what was going on with this. Although it's not really Haley's style, she was creating some cool music with this guy. I'd at least like a few of the tracks that they did. ![]() RE: Sonic Bloom and collaboration with The Human Experience - dswim2 - 04-25-2015 I was feelin hungry When you caught my eye I was feelin weak when ya came on by I couldn’t hear nothin But your fast beatin heart Can’t help myself when I want something (something in her lower register) Take me for the prisoner I am As I pray you survive Take me to a foreign land Then just leave me there to die I was flyin high See ya down below I was flyin by See you movin slow yeah that's when I swoop in wont you stop me before the damage begins Didn’t mean to cause no trouble Didn’t mean to swallow you whole Didn’t mean to watch you struggle I just couldn’t let you go Didn’t mean to watch you struggle Didn’t mean to swallow you whole Didn’t mean to cause no trouble I just couldn’t let you go oh I was just thinking baby I failed you I failed you I failed you (scats galore) Didn’t mean to cause no trouble Didn’t mean to swallow you whole Didn’t mean to watch you struggle I just couldn’t let you go oh I didn't mean it (more scats) This was my take on the lyrics. I REALLY want a studio version of this song! RE: Sonic Bloom and collaboration with The Human Experience - john - 04-25-2015 Nice job finishing and correcting the lyrics dswim. I had a hard time getting the lyrics of this song. Funny how some become obvious after seeing the words. I listen to this song periodically and for me it's an earworm. The rest of the day I have Haley's vocals playing in my head (I find it has that haunting quality). David does a nice job with the music and incorporating Haley's vocals into his sound manipulations without distorting her tone. I really like the emphasis on this one of the honey side of Haley's voice. |
