RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - rmd1064 - 07-26-2015 Thanks to Rachel and Tusk for the great videos from the Troubadour. As many people have noted, she has really grown in confidence onstage thanks to all of her PMJ experience and just looks like a star in waiting. Based on the set list, I guess we can be pretty sure that her EP will include “Better”, “My Cake”, “Good or Bad” and “Love Is Worth Fighting For”. All are strong songs that with a great band and production behind it should sound great on CD. I wonder if it would be a long shot to see her add “Creep” to her EP? I know that PMJ has it already with Haley, but adding it to her EP would really give it a boost due to the 7+ Million views on YouTube. That song really is a Haley classic now. Probably not going to happen, but just a thought. That leaves two more songs for the EP, and I wonder what those might be. I am not a fan of the “You Were There” song with Casey, so hopefully it is not that one, nor not a big fan of “Listen” the song from the Showtime series. I really hope she finds at least one good rocker. Maybe a cover of “I Hear You Knockin”—or something with a “Keep Coming Back” vibe. I also liked “Lovergirl” that she did a few weeks ago, and think that might be a strong song for the EP. So when is it coming out? I am thinking if the photo shoot is happening now, they are getting down to the end. I did not think they would issue physical CDs, but maybe they will press some? Or maybe the photoshoot is just for the iTunes photos, etc. I am guessing at least 2 more months before the release so, maybe by end of September? Anyway, VERY excited with the EP release, whenever we get it! RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - john - 07-26-2015 RMD, the photo shoot is happening Right Now and it is being webcast on Periscope. Go here and follow the link: Quote:Rachel! @RClovesHaley 1h1 hour ago While I don't see Creep on the EP at all, I hope it's popularity doesn't get in the way of her new songs. In certain situations people may expect to hear it, when she is trying to promote the songs on the EP. RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - Tusk - 07-26-2015 Here's "You Were There" RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - Tusk - 07-26-2015 Featuring solos from both Casey and Jacob as well as a 50 second Scat, this is a pretty delicious performance. Included at the beginning of the video is Haley teasing us with 30 seconds of Amy Winehouse's "Rehab" RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - Kevin - 07-26-2015 (07-26-2015, 07:54 PM)Tusk Wrote: Featuring solos from both Casey and Jacob as well as a 50 second Scat, this is a pretty delicious performance. That was exceptional. I liked that little wink to Casey at the end. RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - Tusk - 07-27-2015 (07-24-2015, 08:26 PM)Tusk Wrote: I'll relay what I can about taking My Niece, as an early 17th Birthday present, to her first live concert, where she met Haley Reinhart, then watched her debut at the Troubadour My sister's family in San Diego is musically talented, that is to say, all 3 kids took to playing instruments fairly young and easily. Being up in Seattle and not having the ability, at the time, to travel down to see them often while they were young is kind of a bummer because, as most know, kids grow up really fast, you turn away and they're young adults. So a couple years ago, my Niece, Kristina, who had enrolled in and participated in a school band that you had to earn a spot in. She'd been doing it for years, this time, with an opportunity to perform at Carnegie Hall. Not only that, but they'd earned the honor of being a band that would record a composition whose author was also sitting in the audience As I hadn't been there for many of her accomplishments and had some air miles to give up, I took the opportunity to be in the audience for her High School's performance for my second time at Carnegie Hall. The first being to see Haley perform with Irvin Mayfield jr and NOJO. That was then, the thought came into my head that it would be pretty cool if I could get Kristina to meet Haley, someone, like her, who was already musically gifted at an early age. It was just a thought, one that I mentioned to my sister in passing.... My sister thought it'd be nice too, but we didn't take it further than that it was 'a nice thought'... still, it was in the back of my mind. Fast forward to Last month. I had hoped to see Haley w/ PMJ in Seattle, but when her schedule came out, the "North West Haley Drought" continued... When the Laguna Beach show came up, I knew it was to be close to my friends, so gave them a call to let them know...yada yada yada* a 3 day trip to see PMJ in LA turned into a 9 trip which included shows to see Haley at Laguna, Morgan at Newport, then both of them with PMJ in LA. I would have to fly out the day PMJ played in Seattle to get to the Laguna Beach show in time, so would miss that show, a loss I was willing to take ![]() Squeezed in among those dates, right before the Finale, PMJ slipped in a date to San Diego. The date didn't appear on Haley's personal schedule either, so when it was confirmed she'd be there, I decided to go since I'd already be in CA, but it was 21 and over. So even though it was in San Diego, I could not take Kristina to the show. ![]() When the Troubadour date was announced, Roy, one of the other SMYM Haliens told me he planned to take his daughter Hannah (the hula hooping Halien) because it was an all ages show. Add to that, my friends had bought tickets, there was one for me if I wanted, I finally decided, heck I should go, this time there was no age restriction so besides the many hours of driving, there was no reason not to bring Kristina to this show ![]() In the mean time, another remarkable opportunity opened up in regards to Morgan performing near Seattle 2 days after the Troubadour. By the time I decided to buy Tickets Morgan's show at the Winery, it had sold out.... Since I couldn't go, I then planed to stay through the week end for my Sister's Bday, but had to change those plans, fly back to Seattle the next day, after driving my Niece home, to take that opportunity...... Avoiding horrendous traffic congestion was vital to it all working out... ![]() One of worst things about seeing my sister in San Diego is if you don't get off the freeway in time at night, there's a good chance you will be stuck on the freeway with 3-4 lanes closed after a rolling stop ![]() probably 50% of the times this happens on my return from my sister's taking me from 1-4 hours longer to get to where I'm staying. So the day before the Troubadour show, I drove down to see my Sister. We checked if there'd be any road closures before I left. There'd be some, but not on my route. As to avoid being stuck for hours late at night after the Troubadour show, I rented a hotel room for my Niece to sleep after the show, we would return the next day. I told my sister and Kristina when I was planning to pick them up, making some extra time for traffic. Giving myself over 4 hours to make a 2+ hr trip in good circumstances. I also had to try to get there early, because there was an opportunity to get permission to bring my camera in, but whether I could or not was up in the air, it was very much in the air. There was also having a chance for Kristina to meet Haley, probably much easier before than after the show. So everything settled for the next day, I took my sister and her family out for an early Birthday dinner, as I would be in Seattle to see Morgan. Believe it or not, I ran into another rolling stop/4 lanes closed road repair closure that would take an hour longer than it should ![]() Hours before the show, whether things would work out or not for the things I was juggling, I wasn't sure I could pull it off, especially if there was any significant chance of heavy traffic, which in LA, there always is.... *Seinfeld reference ![]() Of course, as it seems is the case I didn't get much sleep that night. The next morning, I was still trying to see if I could get access for my camera at the Troubadour. A few days earlier, I thought I should be proactive and 'show my hand' with the events coordinator. Basically, saying that I might be able to get permission, what are your rules/restrictions as to what we can or cannot do? I basically gave a summation, any information would be appreciated. I got a quick reply, their policy for video is $150 charge per hand held camera, that there would still be restriction on where you could do it from and how many cameras. I think the rules are set up to be a deterrent, more than a ways to collect revenue... We emailed back and forth, the conversation cordial and informative. This would be important later... While tiptoeing through this process with the Troubadour, I lost track of time, I would leave later than I wanted to pick up Kristina, maybe running into early traffic. Fortunately, being a San Diego resident, my sister knew something like this might happen so she offered to meet me half way, because the trip back to LA would be terrible. We met outside a Denny's, my sister was glad that I would spend some time with her daughter, made sure she had everything, then we would be on our way to our hotel to check in, then to the Troubadour. I don't think I ever worried there'd be bored silence for hours during our almost 3 hour drive. There was much I didn't know about my Niece, what she wanted to do, that there wasn't a time during the drive that we didn't talk to each other ![]() We talked about going to College, she wanted to Hitch Hike across the US, had been doing her research, thinking about taking self defense classes to prepare. I told her the reason why I wanted her to meet someone like Haley. That she should understand that what she has, the talent in music that comes to her, is extremely, extremely special.... I wanted her to know, so many people don't have a creative outlet in their lives to turn to. That often, a day is: get up, commute, work, commute, eat, go to sleep, get up etc. Music, art, dance, any creative expression is a bridge out of the mundane. The thing that is crazy great about having an artistic outlet is that when you hit that 'sweet spot'? Something that you are so excited about, you can't sleep? There's not a thing like it in the world ![]() I told her, the key to finding passion in your art is to do what you do, keep doing you until you find 'You'. It is not enough to 'be like someone', imitation isn't art, passion is art. If you do it right, if you align with that vibration, that wavelength, it becomes another form of communication. Your passion will transmit to others who seek or share that passion. It becomes communal ![]() I guess that's a revelation I've learned these past years. I think my experience these last 3 years, the experiences I've been lucky to have, can speak to the benefit of being passion driven.... So... just a bit of what we had to talk about ![]() We also talked about drugs, she gave me her frank opinion on drugs and alcohol, we both agreed that parents who try to shield their children instead of understand the context of drugs society, it's a losing battle. Better to have a discussion about it than ignore it as if it doesn't exist. They will be exposed to it in the media and in schools anyway, prepare them. ![]() i figured this might be a good discussion to have with her before I took her to a concert at the Troubadour in LA ![]() She's a smart kid, so it was a useful conversation for both us, yada yada yada... We finally made it to the hotel, I took some time to downsize what I would bring. I had the foresight to bring a small pack that was big enough for the camera body and 2 lenses. I made sure I had a back up battery and SD card, this time ![]() RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - Tusk - 07-27-2015 I forgot to mention, on our drive up from San Diego, we did spend some time talking about Haley. Kristina said she tried to look up some of Haley's music because she was unfamiliar, but couldn't figure out to spell her name right LOL.. She described the music she liked as .... california, surfer punk, garage band? ![]() So, during a drive break to get coffee and a snack, I whipped out my cell phone, pulled up my channel and chose Creep O2, gave it to Kristina to listen too. "wow...." ![]() I then pulled up Room5 AATB. Kristina's older brother, Christian is a red head, a ginger. I had talked to Kristina about Casey too. Kristina can also play multiple instruments. I remember, years ago, sitting in their garage talking to Kristina. While we were conversing, Kristina casually picked up her brother's electric bass guitar and started playing it, almost subconscientiously. I remember thinking "I didn't know she could play the bass?" I knew she played horns, the Tuba and Euphonium, but not string instruments.... ![]() So that's how the subject of Casey came up. Like Christian, he was a red head, and like Kristina, he plays multiple instruments. Kristina thought he was really cool ![]() The drive from the hotel was a lot more pleasant traffic wise than the freeway trip from San Diego. As my trusty GPS told me to turn here, take that exit there, Kristina was wide eyed at what she saw. She said she had never been in LA before, the buildings are so nice, the people were so beautiful.... lots of oohhs and aaaahhss LOL She noted that driving through the beautiful homes reminded her of the game Grand Theft Auto. Often in simulation games, you can 'visit' a city through the game without ever being there. So the streets were familiar to her LOL I punched in the address I thought was a restaurant, so once we were close we began looking for a place to park. We made the it around the block several times, passing the same shops. One shop in particular, there was this young dark skinned, darked hair young lady outside of a fancy store, I had no idea what they sold. Each time we passed that store, Kristina marveled at how beautiful the young lady was, she looked a little bit like a cross between Niki Minaj and Cleopatra. It was very cute. I was enjoying watching her have a good time, that this wasn't boring for her. So we finally gave up on finding 'free' parking. I would bite the bullet and overpay at a parking garage. There was a blue "P" sign that led me into this entry. It was very fancy, the wall was bricked, there was an alcove that contained greenery (fake?) and a black marble lion...."How much is this parking going to cost?" I thought to myself... I swear to god, this started feeling like it was a Disneyland ride, the way to the parking structure, undulated and weaved, the entire time, the wall was a clean red bricked wall. We finally came to a place, it seemed like stores surrounded the area where you would talk to attendants. This young man waved me to pull up, I asked him, what does it cost to park here? I would relay what he told me if I could just understand what he was saying? He sounded like someone with a cross between a New Jersey and Brooklyn accent...with marbles in his mouth. I wanted to ask him if I could talk to someone who spoke English ![]() I wasn't sure but the total would be something around $26 if I valet parked, there was restrictions, I could do this or that or we could...it was really hard to get passed that accent and not be rude, asking him to repeat...again. So I said, OK, never mind, how can I get out of here.... ![]() We eventually found one that was clear about the charge, we parked then, were done...enough already, the clock was ticking, I'm not sure we could be done eating and still make it in early to figure out if I can bring my camera in or not ![]() We went to where the address I was given took us. It wasn't a restaurant, it was an office building lobby ![]() As we walked and opened to the room I was directed, there were my friends, a new friend of theirs, a young girl by the name of Elizabeth, and a couple who I'd met before, but very casually. They were trying to navigate their TV to pull up Haley's SMYM video..... Before I go further. This couple were in part producing a movie, working with Al Pacino, Elijah Wood and Malcolm McDowell, were the names they told me. The had posters, art board some story boards scattered around. ![]() Nick was impressed with Haley's Hula Hooping in the video (lol) so I showed the SMYM video from behind the scenes of Haley hula hooping for like 6 minutes LOL I introduced my Niece to everyone, then them to my Niece. Any way, they were looking up SMYM, my friends having fun at my expense with Nick and Kaylah . ![]() Apparently, my friend is my agent, wanted to show Nick my dance moves ![]() ![]() Nick actually thought that the video was done Green screened. I told him, nope, we spent almost 16 hours in the desert, those planes weren't added. That piqued Nick's interest, so I gave him a brief story of how the video came out, pointed out who Dannig was in the video... We went on to watch a couple of my better Haley videos... but it was really started getting late. It was then decided we could eat at the restaurant underneath their office, where we learned more about each other. Turns out I had a connection to Both Nick and Kaylah. Nick was raised in the UK and Kaylah came form Spokane Washington. I found out that Nick was also a former wake board champion, basically one of those personality who aggresively attacks life instead of wait for something to happen. He was exactly what I was NOT. Still unsure about the situations with the cameras, we finally organised to leave for the Troubadour. Elizabeth would ride with Kristina and I. The Troubadour was only a mile away, so we should make decent time, although traffic, both auto and pedestrian was thickening. My friend arrived before I did, gave me a call, "your name isn't on their photo pass list" ![]() We found parking across from the Troubadour, a decent $10. On the way, I bumped into my friends making it back to their car. Apparently they tried to find my name, if only I had something to prove that there was communication... This is where the proactive conversation I had came handy. I had proof and the right name on my phone. I didn't have to worry about being on the list because I'd bought my ticket.... we were in ![]() I had been tipped before hand about where decent spots at the Troubadour would be to have a good angle of the stage. Relieved at finally having the camera issue lifted off my shoulders, I could relax. To the left as you entered, there was a bar. The sound of muffled conversation straight ahead led to the main room. The room entrance is stage left (so right if you were facing the stage) On the left, there were stairs that led up the balcony seating area. Going up the stairs, before you turned right to the balcony area, on your left, was another place to get alcohol. There was one waitress working the area. As soon as I walked in the main staging area, who should I run into but Casey ![]() I asked Casey if Haley was here already, he said he texted but had to keep checking his phone. So I let him get on with his business. We went up to get a closer look at the stage when Rachel arrived. She had brought a friend, Tony, we were introduced, then went on to explore a little more We worked our way to the area that was suggested. The seats in the balcony was cordoned off with tape and rope, I don't recall the name on the paper. Someone said they were for label executives, maybe for the Rigs because no executive sat in them, at least for Haley or All Hail. Eventually people went over the ropes and sat in chairs that were empty most of the night. So as I was looking around the area, I saw across the way, Beatalks, from the SMYM and drummer at Room5 came out to say hi to friends. I thought I should go over and say hi. Turns out that's where Haley was, so I said Hi, usual warm greeting from Haley, and I took that pic.. ![]() ![]() I told Haley I brought my Niece, asked if it's OK if she could meet Haley. "Sure" So I went over to get my Niece, brought her over told her about Carnegie Hall, got a picture of us with Haley. But then other people found their way to the room, so Haley didn't have much time than to say a few words with Kristina, Being shy I wasn't sure there was much she might have said, any way, so we thanked Haley and made our way back to 'the spot' While we were checking and testing our equipment, Kristina was quietly looking over the scene keeping to herself. Elizabeth noticed this, went up to Kristina and told her, "it's too boring up here with the 'old folk', come with me we'll check what's going on downstairs" ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Still strategizing and looking at where security was, asking some questions, who should show up but Yanni ![]() ![]() Jacob always with a warm hug was excited to playing the troubadour, I told Scott how much Haliens love love love him for giving Haley this stage (PMJ) to shine... as always, Scott humbly says thanks, then turns it around and says "Thank You for your support"..... He is so aware of the parts people play to make his PMJ machine works, always appreciating the fans ![]() Also, he excitedly 'hinted' that he might take the stage to join Haley. I asked if it's OK to tweet that? "Yeah, OK" ![]() Quote:Tusk @HaleysTusk Jul 23 Soon enough it was time for the opening band, All Hail, to take the stage, so every one took position... (Next....post script. after the show) RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - Tusk - 07-28-2015 All Hail were actually pretty decent. I did a quick look up for info on them. They did not seem particularly active, though they seemed younger than the images I remembered from their face book page. I would say by 8, when All Hail started their set, the Troubadour might have been less than a quarter full, the people at the front of the stage were maybe 4 or five people deep. As I was watching from my perch in the balcony you could see people mingling, the PMJ's tended to keep with each other, Casey with them. I didn't see anyone else of note I might recognise. After All Hail were finished with their set, people scrambled to set up/remove their instruments. I noticed that it was indeed, Courtney Leonard who was standing at bass. In Casey's snapchat of their rehearsal, it Courtney was in too much shadow to see definitively that it was in. Having played for John Mayer and Phillip Phillips, I didn't think he'd be playing for Haley again, I met Courtney and Keith before I met Haley way back when. On the keyboards was Quinton, Jacob with sax, clarinet, Beatalks Marzano was drummer and I don't recall the name of the gentleman at the bongo's and tambourine (percussions) By the time Haley took the stage, the floor was more than half full, people sitting on the sides. I'm not sure as to the quality of the sound setup, I often heard a slight buzzing, thinking to myself, The Troubadour should have this figured out? As always, I worry about the audio being unfixible, fortunately, that sound is minimal in the camera audio. One thing I did notice while Haley started her set. Casey was standing with Scott watching Haley. Scott was standing facing the stage, watching the show intently. Casey on the otherhand had his body moving, his head swinging to and fro to the music, sometimes with a little emphasis with his shoulders. I could imagine his eyes were probably closed as he let the music move him LOL. He was enjoying music like that until it was his turn to get on the stage. Since I had to edit it out for length on the Creep video, I'll Transcribe what was said when Scott was introduced.... Quote:H: I'd like to bring up another guest performer, he goes by the name of Scott Bradlee!! Quote:S: I'm glad that I'm standing here, really testing my core strength today, you know I usually sit down on my piano, but now I could stand, plus I get to do this.... (spins/pirouettes) Quote:H: (Watching Scott) Oh My!... (to the audience) He's got a few tricks ladies and gentleman Quote:S: It might, it might not happen Quote:H: For once it's not your show, so you can drink.... Quote:S: Yeah right, (chuckle) I know, what a change Then it goes into what you see/hear in Creep So after Haley's set, there was again the commotion to set up and switch out gear, but the crowd was starting to get noticeably denser. It wasn't as easy to move around on the floor, people probably trying to meet talk to Haley. Scott was getting alot of attention from people wishing him well, Casey was standing near his bass, until he had to break away, excusing himself to take care of his Bass. While we waited for Haley to make an appearance, trying to slip by unnoticed, was Clare Reynolds, Haley's cowriter for LIWFF. I greeted her and congratulated her on the song making the album. She had a friend with her whom she introduced. We talked about how excited she was for the EP and being back in the States. She said she was also waiting for Haley, that she'd texted Haley and would be waiting in the outside bar. ![]() After awhile, of no Haley, the crowd was noticeably denser, the Rigs were about to start, alot of people started entering the venue at this time. Either these were the 'industry' people the upper balcony seats were reserved for, or they were people given tickets to see the Rigs. I actually was surprised that the biggest crowd that night would be for the Rigs. By the time we left, the room was pretty filled. It was getting late, I said goodbye to whom I could. Met a nice Father/daughter Halien fans who I met first at Room5. They asked if I got videos to post? I told them yes. We followed each other on Instagram (I did that a few times that night. Seems a lot more 'social' app than Twitter) Before we pulled out of our parking, I got a text, "Where you at?" It was Rachel. I apologized I didn't say good bye properly because it was crowded and late, we were going to call it a night. Rachel would stay to watch the Rigs, so we bid each other farewell/next time. .....So much for getting quickly back to the hotel. The streets were filled with cars. As I followed my GPS, things started getting worse and worse.... maybe 4-5 cars got through per light. It took half hour to move 1/5 mile. By the time we reached the intersection where we needed to turn right, it was blocked by police cars, officers signalling for me turn left. Behind him you could see the other side of the street was similarly barricaded. At least 10-12 Police vehicles with their reds and blues on. In addition to all of this, there were maybe two police helicopters circling above with their spotlights....it was insane ![]() (Remember my Niece referring to Grand Theft Auto? How true would this statement be ![]() Well,it turns out there was apparently a big show with some big Rapper who cancelled the show and apparently there was fear of a riot. At Dinner, earlier, I remember Dina Lapolt, Haley's lawyer, tweeting about the possibility of a riot, but I didn't pay attention. ![]() Quote:Dina LaPolt @dinalapolt Jul 23 Quote:Dina LaPolt @dinalapolt Jul 23 ![]() Quote:Dina LaPolt @dinalapolt Jul 23 So we had to take a detour... we took a left and went up a hill. Next thing I know, another Disney land Drive...left right, up down, weaving away. I had this thought... what if it takes us in a full circle...which it did.... ![]() ![]() Eventually we had to take a long detour to finally check in....., almost 2 hours after we left the Troubadour.... LA traffic is the best! ![]() So when I finally returned my Niece to her mother, I told her all the things we did. My sister then said t Kristina, "So?? How was it meeting Haley? " Kristina put her hands up to her face, "Oh my Gosh, Mom, I wanted to tell her, 'You're so beautiful!'" ![]() ![]() I said Kristina also got to meet Casey...."Mom, he's got a man bun, he plays the bass, he's so cool" LOL ![]() So it sounded like, mission accomplished. It did suck that I had no internet access, but other than that, a lot went very well, I got to spend a ton of time with my Niece, took her to her first concert, a Haley Reinhart concert at the Troubadour and she had a great time!! ![]() Quote:Tusk @HaleysTusk Jul 23 Quote:Haley Reinhart @HaleyReinhart 8h8 hours ago PS, this is for those who've told me they used to enjoy when my post used to be 'longer' of my trips, telling a tale. I explained that there's sometimes things that probably shouldn't or can't be made public, things you can't say, people who prefer anonimity, so that tends to lighten the load of the things that can be mentioned. So there you go. I thought I might give it a go ![]() ![]() RE: Haley at the Troubadour July 23rd - XAtlantic - 07-28-2015 And so here I sit on the rocky shores of the northern Baltic in Finland, away from civilization, reading your adventures in LA on a trickle-bit mobile connection!
