Well I've listened to all these songs repeatedly over the past few days. And I have to say James has blossomed into quite the songwriter. The live deliveries are also very sincere and convincing, dude is finding his sound, his musical identity and I'm proud of him.
All of these songs are very catchy and radio friendly (depending on the format), with the exception of Forget It. I can't make out most of the lyrics, they sound meaningful but I can't find a hook so I'd relegate that one to album filler. Perhaps the studio recording will change my mind.
For rock radio:
Louder Than a Loaded Gun is definitely the catchiest with a big ass hook big enough to catch a killer whale. The "say, say, say", "hey, hey, hey" and "scream, scream, scream" will be stuck in your head before you reach the bridge, whether you want it to or not. It's also very effective in a live setting: "1,2,3: fist pump, fist pump, fist pump." I would pick this song as the lead single.
Get Over Yourself is still my favourite. Not only is it hilarious with it's tongue-in-cheek snark, it's also edgier than anything I've heard from any other Idol rocker post Idol. This will appeal to young males in their late teens and early 20s who are into hard or alt. rock, and this is the demo James should be targeting. I would make this the follow up single to Louder Than a Loaded Gun.
HAC:
You're Not Alone and Santa Cruz would both do well as radio singles. I would lead with You're Not Alone and follow up with Santa Cruz. I'm not gonna say much about them as I prefer the heavier songs though I do like them too. They are well written and catchy yet they also have substance, they're not meaningless fluff. Perhaps enough substance for AAA.
This is just a small sampling of the 30-45 songs James has written, a few that were showcased on StageIt weren't showcased here (In the Name of Love, Enemies Like You, We All Go Marching On and We Would Have Loved You Anyway).
I can't wait to get my hands on this album, I know I'm gonna love it.

Yes that's right, she's a major cowgirl, very into country and bluegrass. She even wore cowboy boots under her wedding dress.
