From a practical point of view, songwriters stand to benefit from sales if the original artist who recorded a song continues to perform it.

Sounds like it's not even worth it to be the singer. By time the record company, manager, writers, publishing co, fellow musicians, etc get their share, there's only penny's left. Thanks everyone, I've been lurking for a bit..but I finally decided to join. Wish it was under better circumstances though. Still, for some reason I'm pretty positive about this. Haley is just too talented to disappear.
