(I said three novenas and tipped an extra 5$ per song at stage-it for the privilege of listening early.) I'm slightly hesitant to mention the unreleased gems, but I've listened to this song more than a few times. Like you, I'm eagerly awaiting where to send the money to! I love it. RE: Next album will be blusier - 30CamdenSquare - 03-02-2013 So Haley mentioned at her HOB concert that she was... I can't remember if she said she was coming out w/ an EP or just recording an EP while she shopped for labels. I'm kind of thinking now that it was probably the later. Then today she mentioned she'd co-written 10 new songs this week. So assuming she hasn't already signed w/ a new label, my guess is she's making a demo of the new material to take around to the labels. Then after she signs w/ her new label, the actual EP (or hopefully) album will be recorded. One thing I'd hope Haley would want to do is have her band playing their parts on the record. I know Harry's going to be on it too and that's great, but I don't see any reason to replace Keith, John & Courtney w/ studio musicians on this album. ....Changing the subject but still about the 2nd Album.... I notice quite a few fans on twitter & different places, who wonder why Haley isn't playing more performances lately or need new music from her ASAP. And it makes me think that most of her fans don't realize that in order for Haley's 2nd album to be more successful than her debut, means pulling off something that is no small feat. Haley is going to need to beat the odds, & break the post idol mold for her 2nd album to even sell as much as her first. Take a look at this and notice how, for 95% of Idols, each subsequent album sales are drastically lower than the previous one(s). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_American_Idol_alumni_album_sales Can Haley beat the odds & break the post Idol mold? I think so, and I would love, love, love to see her do it. But I think in order for that to happen, she's going to need a really good album & a label that takes the approach of promoting her the way they would a non-Idol new artist (albeit w/ a larger established fan base than the typical new artist) and a good plan for doing it. We've all been through this once w/ Listen Up, so I think most of us know at least some of the obstacles she'll be facing. So what are some of these and what kinds of things will Haley need to do to overcome them? You raise a very good point, which makes being signed by a second label no small feat either. In a different section of HF, I linked to a TED talk by Amanda Palmer. http://haleyfans.com/showthread.php?tid=1609 At about the 7:40 mark, she describes how her band developed a bit of a following and they were signed to a label. Their album sold 25,000 units the first few weeks. She thought that was fantastic. The label considered it a failure and walked away. Getting back to Haley, in order to outsell Listen Up! she's going to need a hit single. Honestly, the odds are against that happening. I'm wondering about the subject matter of the songs she is currently recording. Listen Up! contained songs mostly centered around relationships. That's a big part of the pop music formula for creating a hit song. But I was listening to a lot of classic rock songs the other day and was struck by how most were about something other than relationships. I'm hoping she explores this type of subject matter more this go round. Haley is looking for her First hit , not following on taking advantage of momentum of past sales. Her first album's sales (to date) are irrelevant because- Frowny Face -Lets not fool ourselve. Listen Up ! really didn't sell at all (58k barely moves the needle past empty) YET! I started thinking (and typing but mostly deleting) about all we've learned here about the
Listen Up ALBUM was a huge success in ways beyond sales It introduced her (thanks to the push and payment from the Label) to some very big name writers etc, which she, with her own amazing talents , has impressed so much that they're evidently eager to work with her "on spec" knowing that a great product has a real chance to sell. It gave her a relationship with Ole, based probably just out of routine to sign all of the labels acts, has proven to people there that they can make money successfully placing unknown songs of Haley's. (we don't know if what they've seen to-date qualifies as a financial success or just enough money to give them hope - but still it is something big in my mind that came from the album. Haley is one big hit away from commercial success and while the two might be one in the same, that hit doesn't seem like its going to come from the label promotion route that relates to the first album sales of the others on the list. I'll voice my prediction once again, that it is going to be a song featured in a movie or TV spot After having the album for a couple weeks back in may I just began to think that way (and mentioned it , lol) even before she saw the glimmer of light with Undone got (in Step-UP revolution) and the ESPN football and Nashville adds among others. Her songs just didn't seem ripe for radio promotion (and after seeing that recently linked article demonstrating how songs meant for radio have all the good parts smashed out of them via loudness compression, I understand my instincts more) I am just sure as day one of these sort of things, perhaps a custom written song that she gets a chance at based on the way she has impressed the best creators in the business that hey can produce even better work with her than without her (Am I leaping at conclusions there? I don't think so : ) ) . It might be disappointing for some if she didn't sing on her first big hit -- and I'm not saying that will happen - but even that could.. I might link a long snipped about Bruno Mars carerr path later. At this point, Haley won't follow the Idol model of initial success and drop off based on her idol name (that chance came, and didn't work) When she makes it, it will be because of her crazy abilities as a musian... her engine will propel her forward, and she won't be just drifting from something behind her; even without the alubm (yet) becoming a commercial success it sure has furthered her career in potentially more important ways than other albums listed. RE: Next album will be blusier - midnightblues - 03-02-2013 She didn't sell millions, but she did make the charts. The breakaway tune is on the way I just wish it could be from L U , win loose OR draw the album still has many prospects, but as much as peeps don't listen to the radio that much anymore , air time is still a given. Silly ass Interscope, but Hales is moving on. ![]() ![]() RE: Next album will be blusier - Babbs234 - 03-02-2013 (03-02-2013, 04:44 PM)Tom22 Wrote: [quote='Himm2' pid='23349' dateline='1362232900'] Quote:Ahhh, another positive reference to a Stevie in H.E.R. life!I noticed that too! That list on Wiki lists the top selling Idols of all time. Most of them sold over a million their first time out.Eliot Yamin is listed last and he sold just shy of 700,000. Haley is starting form a much lower base-Listen Up sold around 60,000.Haley,like everyone else will need a "hit" -or at least a successful single. That doesn't mean that she has to sell a million copies of it-or even say,500,000.There are many artists who are out touring in support of an album and they're not selling those kinds of numbers.Allen Stone tours all over the world on a regular basis and I'd be surprised if he had a single that sold half a million.Everything is relative. Haley says that her next album will be "blusier".Given her range that could mean all kinds of things. We'll just have to see. RE: Next album will be blusier - Himm2 - 03-03-2013 I think Haley should name her second album: "LOOSEN UP" as the sequel to "LISTEN UP" known to mean: Lighten up, breathe easy, cool off, feel at home, hang loose, enjoy the ride, put one's feet up, take a load off, take it easy, unwind, wind down Or even better, LOOSEN UP your wallet, and help make this album go Platinum Dude!! |
