The contestant, Matthew Farmer, was given the famed gold ticket after auditioning for the show (which aired on Jan. 30). On the episode, Farmer delivered a touching story of serving in Iraq, where he suffered a brain injury from an IED explosion. The singer also claimed that the attack had led to post-traumatic stress disorder and that he was taking medicine that made him sterile. It turns out the tales were false, according to The New York Daily News. The report states that Farmer now admits that the story was made up, telling website Guardians of Valor that “It was all lies.” “I am extremely remorseful and very upset that I allowed myself to take from the hard work of the guys that I was deployed with among others,” Farmer reportedly wrote on the site. “To think that I would go on a national TV show and get away with continuing a lie so big…is ridiculous.” Fox News notes that while Farmer did indeed serve in the Army, he was never actually injured in combat. As a result, TV Guide reports that he is no longer on the show. RE: American Idol 2013 - Tom22 - 02-02-2013 The poor guy is truly truly messed up. At least he knows he's messed up and so do the people around him .. that could help. From what I understand, it's likely that he sufferers from a personality disorder that doesn't go away. Without a support network around him he'd would very likely to be put in an mental institution (or end up in the criminal sort of institution) as behaviour can cycle into even more irrational and delusional acts that can be harmful in even larger ways that the people relying on his lies. I thought the talent last year was pretty strong in terms of voices but missed the mark in terms of finding stage personalities up to their musical craft. Having young girls is tough too. As talented as they can be , if they haven't lived long enough to know what's behind the lyrics you don't have true music.. just singing. I guess that has a lot to do with song choice (choices allowed?). Many songs can be interpreted so they do have broad heartfelt emotions that the singer twists to something in their own life. But things just can't be happy or sad.. life is more complicated than that and some kids life experiences may have allowed them to see first hand more than others. Skylar was pretty glib on stage but i just wasn't that impressed with her singing (but others differ with me as is their prerogative . Phillip Phillips was in so much pain that I think it really held him back in terms of banter.. he seems to have a quick whit and a personality that can make people feel good about themselves by being comfortable with himself while still treating things as special. His songs did start sounding a lot a like to me but thats a longer conversation. I won't go through them all about where they just missed for me but for the most part it was in more subtle ways than their voices and I haven't seen enough (not that we ever do) in auditions to feel like they'd have got it better or worse this year. RE: American Idol 2013 - buzzenator - 02-02-2013 ^ Speaking of messed up...all this guy wanted to do was get a chance to audition on American Idol. He heard they were looking for a WGWG. Sometimes you get on the wrong bus...and sometimes it all works out. RE: American Idol 2013 - Babbs234 - 02-02-2013 ^^^ That video was very funny Buzz! Bill Murray grew up about 2 miles from me.
