RE: The Voice Season 8 - riley - 04-16-2015 I don't watch the voice but watched the videos. They are a talented bunch. Sawyer is #28 on the Itunes charts, pretty impressive. Meghan is #31 and Kimberly's at #32. RE: The Voice Season 8 - mercfan3 - 04-25-2015 Reaching Top 10 on itunes (3 (Koryn) and 4 (Sawyer) ) Sawyer Fredericks: Sawyer missed a few notes, but I honestly give him a break in ways that I don't normally do. I've listened to his performances before his voice change, and his range was significantly larger, his voice didn't crack and he was pitch perfect. Most of the time he doesn't make errors regardless..but when he does, I give him a break because he's right at that Voice changing age and one of the reasons why he went on The Voice was to try and improve and learn how to deal with his voice change. Something about this kid is just so special though. Koryn, his teammate..stole the night. I wasn't crazy about Koryn until this performance. I think she definitely fits in the rock lane (although, she'll be singing Alicia Keys next week)..that was one of the best voice performances ever..(I feel like I've said that a few times this season..) absolutely amazing coming from a 16 year old girl. RE: The Voice Season 8 - mercfan3 - 04-29-2015 So two individuals made the top 10 on itunes this week. Sawyer Fredericks (shocked. I'm shocked.) and Joshua Davis Sawyer got to #2 with "Simple Man" I can say this is easily my favorite Sawyer performance since his audition. The song is good representation of him. His voice..there's just something about it..it's so emotive on it's own. Given how well the kid is selling (His original EP from when he was about 13 is even selling on the album charts), Republic will have to try hard for him not to be successful post show. (Because he's winning.) The other contestant in the top 10 was Joshua Davis, who was actually in the B3 last week. I feel that his song choice and Usher's coaching (emphasizing the "family man" aspect of Joshua and helping to form emotional connections all over the place..) helped tremendously. Although it's kid of sleepy, he did do a beautiful job with this song. "Fields of Gold" RE: The Voice Season 8 - mercfan3 - 05-06-2015 Top 10s this week..we had two from Sawyer (shocking again.) and one from Meghan. The Sawyer song that hit number 10 only did so because it's Sawyer. His voice sounds good on the track, but the entire staging is so awkward it's one of the few songs that I can't re-watch from him. Meghan Linsey is the first contestant other than Sawyer to get two songs in the top 10. She hit number five with a really beautiful cover of "Amazing Grace." And finally, Sawyer hit number 3 with "Shine On." The song is an unknown, and actually the writer/singer is a very good friend of another contestant on the show. Everyone had assumed that Sawyer had learned of the song from the other contestant, but it was one his mother had taught him. RE: The Voice Season 8 - Tom22 - 05-07-2015 simple yet lovely thoughts to the lyrics in that song "shine on". I've been impressed all season by Sawyer and it's also really cool to hear a song I hadn't heard before. original artists May Erlewine (close friends of Joshua Davis and family I think) http://mayerlewine.com/#/player1?catid=0&trackid=0 found the lyrics elsewhere Knocked me off of my feet But I think it's time for me to start walking again, Stop running away from things. Next time you see me, I will be singing a new song/ I am learning to shine on. Shine on, shine on, There'll be time enough for darkness when everything's gone. Shine on, shine on, There is work to be done in the dark before dawn. It's been hard not to give in, And it ain't easy living in hard times. I know it's weighing on your mind. Next time you see me, I'll be uplifting, yes I will give you hope! I am learning as I go to shine on. Shine on, shine on. There'll be time enough for darkness before everything's gone. Shine on, shine on, There is work to be done in the dark before dawn. I know how dark it seems, Feel it coming up inside of me, And I feel it in you too, in everything you do. Next time you see me, We'll both be laughing, oh just to be alive! We are learning to shine, shine on. Shine on, shine on. There'll be time enough for darkness when everything's gone Shine on, shine on. There is work to be done in the dark before dawn. There is work to be done, So you you've got to shine on. She's truly fantastic. RE: The Voice Season 8 - mercfan3 - 05-11-2015 India Carney is going to sing "Earth Song" tonight. Xtina and Haley have seriously similar tastes in music. RE: The Voice Season 8 - mercfan3 - 05-13-2015 So..we have three songs in the top 10 this week. Two from Sawyer and one from Meghan. Sawyer sang "For What It's Worth" and it finished the night at number 3. I liked this one a lot for him. And I thought it was...an interesting choice, considering he knows fully what the song is about and who his demo is. (But they ate it up anyway.) Sawyer also sang "A Thousand Years" which I think is the only song that Pharrell has actually chosen for him this season. I'm not quite sure how I feel about his tone on this song, I think I just don't like making Sawyer move. His melody changes were interesting too. Apparently a lot of people loved it because it finished #2. Meghan Linsey did a great version of Tennessee Whisky (so much better than the original..) She's great when she can go full blast on a song..but any time she has to finesse it's not so great. This song..she got to be on full blast and it was excellent. She finished the night at #6 RE: The Voice Season 8 - mercfan3 - 05-19-2015 Gonna do a mostly Team Pharrell update because that was deserved And Sawyer Fredericks finished off the most dominating run in Voice history tonight. I actually thought he earned it last night too, to me..he had two of the top 4 performances (of the twelve.) His new original "Please" was actually written by Ray Lamontagne..who is his idol. Which is just amazing for him. It's a really beautiful song, although chopped a bit to get it into the 3 minute window. (It's really a four minute song) He also sang "Old Man" which was probably my favorite performance of the night. This means that Pharrell is the second coach not named Blake or Adam to win the show. He really redeemed himself this season and showed himself to be genuinely invested in the kids (youngest team ever. Mia and Sawyer were 15 when they auditioned, and Koryn was 16.) He co-wrote and recorded a song with 12th place finisher Mia Z. Not sure whether she's signed but I'm really hopeful. And watching him watch Koryn perform is one of the highlights of the night. He also wrote her original song. Meghan Linsey finished in second and Joshua Davis finished in third. Both of them got to sing their own penned original which is a first for The Voice. |
