For some reason, one of the first things that came to mind while I listened to the White Stripes version was James Durbin singing Uprising on AI with those marching drummers. This is Durbinator territory but the song has been thoroughly given the PMJ/Haley Reinhart treatment and stands anew. I love it -- Radiohead, White Stripes, Tove Lo. The acapela beginning with finger snaps reminds me of the recent GBAIGTY cover with the No Vacancy Orchestra.

Edit: In Melanie Martinez' cover, she sings the riff. I wonder if Haley will scat it. (Which would be fantastic)

OMG...love this song and anything with White Stripes & Jack White...can't wait to hear the remake. The clip sounds like a really orignial remake. Jack White is also a fan of jazz as well

A little bit of coincidence? The day after I found out it would be this song was the day I went to see Morgan James. After the show, I decided to go to Blake Lewis' show up the street. He started his set with a mash up/ beat box cover of this song accompanied only by a sax....
When I recognised the song, I wondered to myself, did Blake know Haley covered this song too?
Blake tweeted this vid from that night, it starts at 10 sec.
I might eventually post this song, I'd thought it might be a fun one to post. I know what Blake does here is not everybody's cup of tea, I've liked many genre's of music, so I'm open to alot. Blake's show was high energy, musically 'dirty' and very entertaining

I think her losing that twitter battle contributed to some of the..bitterness (for lack of better word) we've seen from her. She shouldn't have lost it.
But when it comes to covers of that song, Melanie's is still my favorite.
(For about another hour. Then I have a gut feeling that Haley's will take her place..)Tusk, I think one of the greatest things about music is the way it fosters creativity in people. There are traditional/classical forms of music, that are technically brilliant and beautiful.
Blake is undeniably talented and something different. He's not as talented as some others in the traditional sense, but he is talented. And even as someone who doesn't love beatboxing, I always end up enjoying his performances. A unique performer is going to be polarizing, but for me..he's always enjoyable. (And his "Radioactive" is one of my all time favorite PMJ covers)
