My theory:

The album was taking forever and the band has to eat so they found new projects to pursue.

It might be a change in direction as well cause the producer has been replaced (by Scott Stevens). Also none of the songs from the Nashville sessions with the original producer (James Michael) have been included from what I can see. Though Stevens and Michael have rather similar resumes, both are primarily hard rock producers.

My Only Regret (new song) - my net connection started going fuzzy at this point, I didn't hear much but it's got great lyrics.
Louder Than a Loaded Gun (new song) - he's rewritten it by expanding the verses, it's much better now but it was a good song to begin with.
May (MOABD)
Untitled (new song) - he didn't tell us what this song is called and said it wasn't exactly cleared for him to sing yet. It's awesome, hilarious (it name checks Notorious B.I.G., Paul McCartney and Bruno Mars) and super catchy.
