RE: American Idol 2014 - mercfan3 - 03-13-2014 No, he's said "best' and "strongest" a few times. He said them being versatile as a reason..but that's not even true. It's got 2 WGWG, 3 Country guys, 3 female pop singers, 2 rock singers (Female and male), 1 female rock singer, and 1 female R&B/ballad singer, and a gospel singer. I think he's saying it because he helped put them together, personally. I do value his musical knowledge, but I also think he likes attention and has a healthy ego. Quote:I don't know how much of past shows he's watched but whatever it is-- It's true that he put his credibility on the line with certain remarks of late, but his concept of "watch" might be quite different from Michael Slezak's (for example). Whereas the latter's livelihood is dependent on specifics, detail, and nuances, so Michael pays rapt attention and takes notes, Harry's idea of "watch" might be the TV's on as background noise while he pays bills, or works on new material for his shows or.... RE: American Idol 2014 - Tusk - 03-13-2014 I think it's too subjective a thing to even state, tho it seems Harry is starting to become less of a speaker for honesty, and perhaps more a 'company man', pumping up the product to salvage the negative buzz around his season. ![]() I always get a bit embarrassed by fan reaction to anyone trying to cover a "Haley" song on these competitions... as I posted at Mjs, it's risky covering a beloved song attached to a past Idol, the odds are heavily weighed against you going in, BUT if you manage to accomplish putting your mark on the song too, it pays BIG dividends. As I've said before, I really only paid attention on S10, apparently there are Siobahn Magnus fans who are PO'd that HOTRS was not attributed to her, Haley even said she forgot it in her Idoloonies exit interview. But apparently it was a signature song for Siobahn, now usurped by Haley. Should we bring up Jordin Sparks' game changing performance of "I Who Have Nothing" *I only hear this, did not pay attention during her season either ![]() Haley fans ought to remember IWHN was "Jordin's Song" as HOTRS was Siobahn's. I give Ben alot of credit for trying something, taking a risk, that might make him rise above all the staid country choices, Dexter being the least inspired... ![]() RE: American Idol 2014 - My Alter Ego - 03-13-2014 ^^Well said, Tusk. Ben did take a risk, Alex did as well, for some folks. (The only song that Kris Allen did that I've been able to listen through completely and enjoy was Ain't No Sunshine.) Ben made a couple of mistakes in taking this risk: I think he overestimated both his skills at the keyboard and his falsetto, and ultimately, that could hurt him.* In an evening of noticeably better performances (from the prior week) from all but two (Ben and Majesty Rose), it should be interesting (or unpleasant) to see how this plays out... ~~~ *Edit: it may be that he didn't overestimate his skills at either, but didn't take into account how some performance jitters might impact either one or both. I'll give him props for leaving his comfort zone but he might have brought a lot of viewers with him into his uncomfortable space. I thought it was a cringe worthy, time to leave performance. RE: American Idol 2014 - Miguel - 03-13-2014 (03-12-2014, 09:01 PM)My Alter Ego Wrote: "Harry's comments indicated to me that he did indeed watch the past seasons and had seen Haley's performance of BATJ." The only thing my comment displays is knowledge that: (1) Harry said last week that he had recently reviewed every season of AI (2) A contestant performed the same song as Haley (3) Harry's comments were similar to what aired when they showed Haley's performance. I didn't make it to display how devoted I am to Haley any more than you made your response to demonstrate how devoted you are to Harry. RE: American Idol 2014 - My Alter Ego - 03-13-2014 John, I agree -- although of the country boys, he is more skilled musically than the others. But if it's him, not MK or Majesty Rose (who I'm reasonably certain the judges would save), I can live with it. RE: American Idol 2014 - Himm2 - 03-13-2014 Are east/central time spoilers a no-no here? Can I just say Ben Briley's Bennie put him in the stool-worthy bottom 3 while Haley Reinhart's Bennie kept her from her usual bottom 3 stool when she aced it? RE: American Idol 2014 - mercfan3 - 03-13-2014 I think Ben's biggest issue here, is that what was keeping him in the competition was the fact that he's country. You don't alienate your fans. Miguel, I apologize. However, I neither started nor am moderating a fan website for Harry, so I think your statement regarding devotion is not quite accurate. Given what had gone down last year when he mentored, I had reservations about HCJ becoming a judge. Well, that and the fact that while he really knows his way around a piano, I don't care for his voice. He has a fairly limited range. When he sings in his lower register, he does have a lovely resonance, reminiscent of Sinatra. Unfortunately, what I usually hear has him singing mostly in his upper register, which has a very thin quality to it. However, I have appreciated that Harry has brought real musical knowledge to the judges table of AI. As a result, Keith now makes better comments and Jennifer pretends to. ![]() |
