RE: James Durbin: Era 2.0 - Outcast - 08-21-2013
Yes it was just him with his acoustic guitar. He sounded incredible, his voice was better than ever and his guitar skills have improved by leaps and bounds. He can now rightfully call himself a guitarist.
Here's his amazingly creative rendition of HTH from the show, more videos should surface soon:

As for the song I didn't get to hear in full: it sounds like something that would fit on Casey's album and I wonder if they wrote it together. You'll see if a video of it pops up.

Here you go Miguel, this is Only Regret, the song I didn't hear much of. See what a I mean that it's sorta "Casey Abrams" in sound:

And here's the new version of Louder Than a Loaded Gun:
For comparison, here's the old version:

I really like this song. I never followed James, but I must admit he has talent. Thanks for sharing.

Love the lyrics on that one
James set at RTR wasn't streamed online after all. His team refused to authorize his stream cause he performed unreleased material. A fan however filmed the entire set and will upload it all soon.
RE: James Durbin: Era 2.0 - Miguel - 08-24-2013
Thanks for posting these. I listened to "Only Regret" first. I agree it's "sorta Casey Abrams" (outside of the chorus). I was wondering how this song would translate to a harder sound.
I then listened to "the untitled song" (Fool for You). That one I watched on the YouTube site and noticed the top comment was: "I miss hard rock James " I then watched the new version of "Louder than a Loaded Gun" and snippets from the earlier performance.
I've said before I like acoustic James because his voice is more appealing to me when he's not rocking out. I've also said I think his new material is better than the old.
In watching these videos, I also appreciated that the acoustic approach showcased James as a talented songwriter.
In short, I prefer singer-songwriter James to give-metal-a-chance James.
His current fans may not agree, but I think there is space for him in that realm and that career approach would provide more longevity.
