No it says more about the show than it does about either. Idol is a TV show it's suppose to entertain, that's what it's primary purpose is. Raw talent may be undeniable but it's nowhere near enough to make it in the business. Candice is portrayed as an old fashioned belter and Kree is gonna struggle to get airplay as country radio is very male dominated these days. RE: American Idol 2013 - Outcast - 04-02-2013 Yeah the summer tour is something I've thought about too. The ratings are really bad this season, if they're wise they'll book smaller venues and less dates. I expect significant pay cuts for the contestants as well which is a bummer. The S10 cast were ripped off WRT that due to the poor sales of the S9 tour. I hear tomorrow night's theme is ballad free classic rock. Yay for no ballads but ugh! I love classic rock but I'm now officially sick of hearing it on Idol. How come awesome bands from the 90s like Radiohead or Pearl Jam get no love? RE: American Idol 2013 - Himm2 - 04-02-2013 Try as hard as you may I'm not being discouraged about appreciating this season of Idol. Definitely, there was talk way back then at MJs that they could possibly have grounds to sue 19 Entertainment for the pay cuts. Spoiler, OK now I have to watch tomorrow night: orianthi @orianthi 1h This is gonna be fun rocking out on americanidol tomorrow!! http://instagram.com/p/XnemAczMV7/ RE: American Idol 2013 - Tom22 - 04-02-2013 I don't find it all bad. I am enjoying The Voice more as I'm liking the celebrity banter. To be fair though, once you get to the final 6 or 7 contestants it is really hard to expect the judges to give much more than compliments... on any show. By that point, you have pretty darn good talent who know who they are. This isn't a vaulting competition and a confident performance where a contestant stays true to themselves and the song really doesn't need to be nit-picked about any-more than you'd give a score to a professional entertainer. Keith put it pretty well about I think Burnell saying something like - ' I might do a few things a little differently but I'm not you and you sung it as yourself and that's really my hope for any artist" .. .... still, that doesn't make it much fun to listen to the judges once we get to that point where they stammer around saying nice or sorta nice, or super praise etc. As for the entertainment. Many seasons have seen people come on strong. I certainly would have liked to hear one incredible and memorable performance. There have been some very very good ones and there Candice and Cree are crazy good singers. Amber has a very strong voice but I'm unsure she's got the experience to really bring it together.. her performances have been really excellent but also, boring... I disagree that she wasn't connected.. I thought Amber was connected. and they were musically fairly interesting.. yet there wasn't something more that brought the words really alive. Angie is really growing on me personality wise even as she's struggled to find the right solo songs. but I think Janelle has the biggest shot at really connecting with a few songs. She got me interested in Grace Potter when she sang (as did the eliminated Rachel) a couple of Graces songs . I've bought Grace Potter's "nothing but the water" and I've been listening to it over and over the last week (not quite back to back forever, but enjoying the songs a couple times a day). There is a lot there to enjoy more from the album each additional time I listen to the songs. Very different from Haley - and not maybe quite as fasicinating as a pure voice, yet Grace is definitely part of the band and works with her musicians in a seamless way that compliments the instruments as more equal partners in the whole equation of her style. (which is a classic southern rock/ blues mix... think "The Blues Brothers" maybe ?) Anyway.. the AI 2013 has been a sucess for me even if the only thing it did was introduce me to Grace Potter. ... but I'm pretty sure, given the quality of the remaining singers* I 'm pretty sure I'll see at least a couple really good performances down the line... and many others I enjoy thoroughly. (sans Lazaro.. but I 'm kinda charmed by Burnell even if I think he has a rough spot or two in each song and can't move). Yesterday a new song credit for Haley was posted. Co-writers were Chris DeStefano and Mike Daly. The latter worked as a producer on Grace Potter's second album (her first with a major label). Comments from Grace and a bandmate: Quote:“We didn’t know how good we could be until Mike came in and stepped it up with his song ability, his sense of elasticity and his feel for performance,” Grace says of Daly’s crucial contribution. |
