RE: American Idol 2014 - buzzenator - 03-22-2014 Drudge Report: THE END? 'IDOL' HITS NEW LOWS... http://www.showbiz411.com/2014/03/21/american-idol-hits-new-low-falls-below-8-million-viewers Mrs. B and I watched Idol this week, since it is still automatically recording on the DVR. Some observations from the sofa... Mrs. B..."will you please stop showing J-Lo so much, the show isn't about her!" Harry got exposed a little on the Jessica feedback. He chided her for her persona not matching the lyrics. But the point was made by Keith and Jlo that the song had two opposing aspects, an upbeat/happy melody with dark lyrics. Jessica chose the upbeat/happy delivery which was good. Harry went overboard on insisting that "you are singing lyrics, it's as simple as that". I think if anyone is locked into singing just lyrics it would be Harry Connick Jr...making him very one-dimensional. He's a fabulous singer but is singularly fixated on his way as the only way. Although in the early auditions he came across more light hearted and funny, he now has taken on a darker, defensive position. We now have J-Lo booing him during his comments and sticking her tongue out at him after her replies. The show is winding down. ![]() Prediction: This will be the lowest attendance and fewest concerts for the Idol Tour ever. J-Lo is winding down too...that musical number was goofy and painful! ![]() RE: American Idol 2014 - My Alter Ego - 03-22-2014 (03-22-2014, 07:19 AM)kaypea Wrote:(03-21-2014, 07:34 PM)mercfan3 Wrote: I don't think her lack of votes had anything to do with her pouty look. I think it has to do with half of her performance being a train wreck and not having a strong fanbase..(Like apparently CJ and Jena have.) When it comes to the judging, I agree with you completely, kaypea. I don't find the judging to be harsh. Perhaps Harry went a bit overboard a couple weeks ago with Jessica, but that's usually elicited by a producer whispering in Ryan's ear, I think. And this week, he provided some specific advice to CJ and Malaya that was really good. And while I'm not going to point fingers (of blame) at the band, it's very clear to me that this year's contestants haven't had any real mentoring since Rush Week -- a week wherein most of them performed better than we've seen since. So while your point about the contestants lacking a firm foundation in technique, etc. is valid, if they actually had mentoring, we might be seeing better performances, smarter song choices, and Jessica having to pick something outside of her bar/club set lists. RE: American Idol 2014 - mercfan3 - 03-22-2014 I find Harry picks favorites. And quite frankly, I think MK was actually pretty coddled. But Jessica, for example..gets overly picked on every week. But my real problem with him is that he has a tendency to show off. Like he's not explaining his musical knowledge because it's necessary, but rather to show off. And it's a little annoying when he's wrong. (Like with Jessica's "Pumped up Kicks" or Jena's "Clarity." ) Like I said, I just find him to be obnoxious. At times, I appreciate him..like with his advice to CJ..because that's stuff the audience needs to hear, but other times..He's just obnoxious to me. ![]() Now, I'll repeat what I said..I think he's one of the few on this show that could help the kids back stage. And I almost wish they'd allow him to do that, because I think he wants too. And SOMEONE needs to help them. Gotta say, I still disagree at the band. They do things like coming in at a different tempo or the wrong place. Which is.. worse than a high school band. And it's more than once per week. That would knock anyone off their game, never mind a bunch of kids with barely any experience. Someone like Adam Lambert or Haley could have handled it a lot better than these kids, but it's still pathetic for a show like Idol. Basically, everything is going wrong with Idol this season. RE: American Idol 2014 - midnightblues - 03-22-2014 Idol is a sinking ship. I'm glad I got to watch the one that counted and that was season10 ![]() RE: American Idol 2014 - NUG - 03-26-2014 Looks like Jess is singing Rhiannon tonight...likely with a southern twang. I hope it's not as bad as what's his names Benny!! RE: American Idol 2014 - mercfan3 - 03-26-2014 oh really! Dang..I wasn't going to watch..but I think she'd do a fantastic cover of that. Her voice fits that song well well. RE: American Idol 2014 - Tusk - 03-26-2014 I disagree, I don't think her exaggerated tone will sound good on that song. Gold Dust Woman would be a better fit, if she wanted to do a FM song. I've been intrigued and pulling for her, but her tone seems to be a love/hate thing with me depending on the song, lately leaning towards the "hate" side.. ![]() I'm almost about done waiting for a "moment" performance from any of these guys. Top 10 and I can barely remember any of the past performances from these guys ... She needs to learn to hone that, like Haley did! ![]() RE: American Idol 2014 - Tusk - 03-26-2014 "Too goaty" lol...there's an Old South Park where everybody thought a goat was Stevie Nicks ![]() Didn't Haley once describe her fast vibrato as a "machine gun" vibrato? RE: American Idol 2014 - mercfan3 - 03-26-2014 See, Jessica's voice reminded me of Stevie Nicks the second I heard her. Ugh..just looked at the song list. Idol's gonna suck me in again. There's been some really good choices. I'll give this group one more week. But I agree. The season has really lacked moments. The only memorable performances for me have been Jena's "Decode" (done better by Colton Dixon) "Crow and The Butterfly" which Jessica sang. (And I think it's more about the song choice than her. Although I prefer her voice in it over the original. ) And MK's "All of Me." (And that moment..as Slezak said, the performance was sweet and lovely. It wasn't amazing.) Kind of (okay..really) upset that Caleb is the first person to sing Dazed and Confused on one of these shows, considering the incredible rock singers we've had on both Idol and The Voice. |
