My memories drift to thoughts of the Blonde backup singers with a smiling look of amazement as they sang of Haley killin' it and then the camera showing the large lady on the aisle jammin' in her seat to it!! A number of people have mentioned how the back up singers were "displaying their approval" of Haley's rendition of RITD. We don't know that. That's merely the "Halienized" interpretation of what we saw. And, maybe it's correct. But, maybe, it was a couple of backup singers hoping to garner attention. Or, maybe they were looking forward to a really fun night after the show was over. Or... or... there are a lot of options. (Yup, I have a research background.) What I see a great deal of in this forum is/are a variety of "opinions" that get aggrandized into "fact." In the long run, I'm not sure that's in Haley's best interest. My first thought when I saw the backup singers grinning was that they were as much in awe of what was happening (Haleys singing) as the rest of us were. It struck me as "wow, she is phenomenal and I am sooooo lucky to be here in this moment!" But that is just the impression I got. I feel lucky to view the world through Haley colored glasses ![]() (03-04-2013, 08:44 PM)Tusk Wrote:(03-04-2013, 08:14 PM)Himm2 Wrote: I hadn't heard "Rolling In The Deep" before Haley performed it either. They just have that extra something. I had never heard Rolling in the Deep before Haley sung it either. Although I did end up buying Adele's album, I still like Haley's version more. I guess that's why we're all here!! Haley IS THAT DAMN GOOD! Umm, actually, Haley covered a lot of songs that I really liked the original artists versions of. The thing is, she brought something else to the songs that made me love her covers of them more than I did the originals. What can I say?? Thaz just me ![]() RE: Next album will be blusier - Tusk - 03-04-2013 I can think of "Bennie and the Jets" as one example of a song I liked before Haley's version (no looking back from that point ![]() I prefer Blondie's "Call Me" to Haley's iteration and Janis' TAPOMH has that gutteral 'something' that is hard to beat.... I was a fan of Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know" first (and the album it came from, 'Jagged Little Pill'. "Rhiannon" goes without saying which version I liked better (I was in Stevie Nicks' 'sweet spot' as far as fan demographic).... BATJ is the one I go back to among those covers that I could truthfully say Haley's version is superior to the original (As far as songs I knew previously, so not counting RITD and YAI). She really breathed new life into it ![]() ![]() ![]() "House of the Rising" was an Animals' classic for a long time and was ubiquitous in the UK, now supplanted in my mind by Haley too ![]() RE: Two Haley songs cleared to sing on American Idol - Ronzoni - 03-05-2013 You know, I was just listening to Haley's "Spiderweb" and thinking what a great song it would be for one of the female idols to do. It really shows great range of voice and climaxes at the end. I think it would go over great with the audience and the Idol band with backup singers would sound fantastic. I'd love to be able to get this message out to the female idol finalists. I'd especially like to hear Breanna Steer do it....she's my favorite to win. RE: Two Haley songs cleared to sing on American Idol - Himm2 - 03-05-2013 Remember that the Idol girls sing tonight (Tuesday) instead of the usual wednesday. I like Breanna too - she's got a spark, good singer, very striking! Just sayin'.... My memories drift to thoughts of the Blonde backup singers with a smiling look of amazement as they sang of Haley killin' it and then the camera showing the large lady on the aisle jammin' in her seat to it!! Sometimes the truth is stranger than fiction. The backup singers are sisters Destinee and Paris Monroe from New Jersey, and at the time of Haley's performance were 15 and 16 yrs old! They knew well what they were singing, as they had themselves posted RITD on Youtube just three weeks prior to this night. Their rendition has garnered over a million views itself, and (not to be unkind) doesn't quite compare to Haley's. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m8IH15p9INQ The part of the story that is a bit difficult for me is that as they were backing up Haley, THEY ALREADY HAD BEEN SIGNED TO INTERRSCOPE! Jimmy had brought them out to Idol to get some experience and exposure, as they backed up several of the singers. My theory on this is that the girl knew the song so well, and she knew Haley was absolutely killing it, taking it to heights it had never been before, even in rehearsal, and while she couldn't believe what she was hearing, she was ecstatic to be part of it. RE: Two Haley songs cleared to sing on American Idol - Tusk - 03-05-2013 If you watch that part again, it was the part of the song that launched Haley into 'attack mode' launching into those beautiful high notes (not sung on Haley's studio of the song). IMO Haley infused a 'driving to climax interpretation' to that song that isn't there in Adele's original, and perhaps not during rehearsal either (which might have been a reason for the twin's reaction when Haley lead into it ) Because she didn't include it in the studio version, back then, I suspected she kept that interpretation in her back pocket for the live performance ![]() RE: Two Haley songs cleared to sing on American Idol - Miguel - 03-05-2013 Though their Wikipedia page and Twitter page says the twins are still with Interscope, I don't believe that is true. Their page on the Interscope site is gone. A search of the news archive shows no real mention of them after 2011. And the last event on their page is from March 2012. Prior to that, in fall of 2011, they toured Europe: Russia, Ukraine, Hungary, Croatia, Switzerland, France, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Netherlands, Ireland, Great Britain and Portugal. ![]() On February 11 of this year, Paris tweeted: Quote:I just want you all to know that True Love does not represent me as an Artist or a Vocalist. I am so much more than that.True Love was their first D&P single, released in August 2011. Dang, they're young. The youngest, Paris, just turned 17 in January. Destinee is 18. So they're not really twins. btw, they were first signed by Jimmy Iovine in 2008 as a trio called Clique Girlz. They went to Tokyo to record an album. The following month they released a 3-song EP. They opened for Demi Lovato, Billy Ray Cyrus, The Click Five, Kirk Franklin, The Jonas Brothers, and The Cheetah Girls. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clique_Girlz Screw Interscope for not giving Haley at least that much support. |
