You know after umpteenth watching of "Haley's Journey", I think Randy was much more 'harsh' and aggressively piling on Haley than JLo. She might have been following producers instructions in the bussing, I just think she wasn't near as bad as she's been portrayed, two years after. There were plenty of times she had great things to say about Haley's unique voice (comparing it to Paul's unique voice for the guys), that it was the most soulful of the group (like for instance her critique of Haley's "Blue" after Randy called it 'boring')

^I agree. After the season had ended, I was fuming at both Randy and JLo's critiques, but after rewatching it, JLo wasn't as bad as I remembered, she was mostly only harping on song choices, whereas Randy was just spewing garbage left and right, trying to undermine Haley any way he could.

She wasn't bad in the beginning. But I can't forgive her for downplaying Haley's performance of "You and I" and suggesting James and Scotty had set the bar too high for her. Truth was Haley set the bar that night and they didn't want to credit her with two outstanding performances.

I think the criticisms of JLo's judging are better understood when considered relative to he judging of other contestants. She often overpraised some others ("Nothing to judge there" or something like that on one occasion) while criticizing some aspect of Haley's performance. And, come on, the song choice thing is totally bogus. A criticism that can always be pulled out when the performance is otherwise stunning. JLo's criticism of YAI is pretty empty and her praise for Haley's singing seemed to be a faint nod to the fact that she killed it. When she praised Haley for HOTRS she didn't say that it was a great performance, she remarked that she never heard the song sang like that (stealing the line from Sheryl Crow).
