I completely agree that Haley's voice is designed for jazz. But the audience for jazz is much narrower than Haley's talent deserves. She needs to reach a broader following first, so those of us anxious for the jazz CD need to be generous and patient. (The good side of her developing a larger audience, is that some of them will follow to her when she does the jazzy stuff that you, NUG, and I [and many others] want her to do.)
I totally agree with you, she needed that to create a faithfull audience in order to, you know, be able to what she does best - which is jazz. No doubt that her actual followers will love whatever she does, once they get to know her.

While I'm not certain that Haley wants to be limited to "what she does best is jazz," it does occur to me that she has already "trained" her audience to alway expect her to vary each performance of any given song that she does- to improvise a bit, if you will.
That's very interesting because, at least in my past, I know that many people have been somewhat dismayed by live performances that don't sound exactly like the recorded version they have at home.

Slightly different video of Behind the scenes of HTRJ, more Haley, Casey says they basically recorded it in one take (nothing new for Haley )

Haley sings everything well, but she's the best of the best when it comes to jazz vocal stylings. Naturally gifted. A prodigy. She can be a success in many directions, but she can achieve true greatness, be one of "the best there ever was" in jazz/blues. As she matures musically, I think she'll undoubtedly trend in that direction.

Couldn't agree more. I think she's the future of golden jazz.
Maybe when she's older, more mature like you said, but in all ways. She was born for it.

Yup, yup, and yup.
And, as for the "older" part: she's got a birthday in September. I see no reason that she can't begin her jazz legacy at 22.

She might have established a legacy when she entered Harper College, it may have been before that. As Randy Jackson would've said, dude you have grown with leaps and bounds your so good now. I've been listening to a lot of the Haley reruns especially on the the tour and she has grown, not only as a performer but her voice seems to have a little more depth and maturity into it. The girls is going to be 22 real soon.TIme !!!! Traveler.

Quote:“I did the Conan show and went right to the studio with Casey,” she recalled of the recording process. “It was really nonchalant and very candid. We just went back and forth and did a couple of takes, and boom — he’s putting it on his album.”
