I know of some that want to help badly, even if it means payrolling the artist. Problem is, when we talk about the amount of money that takes, sometimes it results in a feeling that something is 'owed' to the provider, even if they say that it isn't. It's human nature, if you are to invest that kind of money, eventually, someone will feel like there's obligation, whether it's verbalised or not, regardless of how altruistic your intentions are....it's human nature. That's why contracts exist, the emotion is removed and there is clear deliniation of what is expected and what is provided. In the smaller scale, lending someone $100 doesn't really mean much. When you talk about tens of thousands of dollars, maybe hundreds of thousands of dollars...then suddenly things are 'on the line'... some kind of 'return' will eventually be expected. It's human nature. Maybe, I'm assuming incorrectly, but I have to think these business people are successful by making decisions that are more sound than to invest in an entertainer...especially in the climate the music business finds itself, and not to forget the losses due to piracy and illegal downloading as well as the legal hassles of protecting your intellectual property.... It's just not 'a sure bet', no matter how much you believe in the artist. Over the years, the recording industry has seen a steep decline in profits and profitability for numerous reasons...these business people did not become successful by investing in an ailing industry that has seen better days. RE: So I was in LA today..... - Jastal - 02-24-2013 Great experience and thanks for sharing all the details. I love hearing about others who have caught the Haley-bug; it makes my obsession feel more ok. Like the other Halien's I am very jealous of your experience but it was well earned. It sounds like a great way for her to earn some money, sing live, have a great time and who knows...maybe it planted a seed that will grow into something more. What do you think were the favorites of the night? RE: So I was in LA today..... - Tusk - 02-24-2013 (02-24-2013, 06:49 AM)Jastal Wrote: Great experience and thanks for sharing all the details. What do you think were the favorites of the night? Her covers got the best reaction for obvious reasons (those who don't know her, know the song and can appreciate what she does with them)...she was very playful which enhanced the performance. (If you weren't aware, the piano Keith used, is one of those that you can program to play on it's own...when Haley first entered she was happily surprised that they were playing Beatles tunes on it....also, after the show, someone in the crowd yelled to Keith, "That Piano has NEVER been played like that" to which Keith beamed a smile of appreciation) The hosts had two big and friendly dogs that managed to get out and sniff around the area. One time, one of them started making his way to where Haley and Keith were performing, and in mid lyric, Haley sang "doggiee..." LOL ![]() I admit "Undone" is not tops in my list. I loved it when it first came out, but I can also see how some aspects of the song are unrelateable (to me, anyway) and lost some of it's freshness. I didn't expect that she would sing it but was pleasantly surprised when she did. As you might expect she added and played with the tune, when she sang "Undone" near the end, it wasn't like a 'wail', but a softer, sadder interpretation. So that brought a freshness to my ear. I wanted to suggest "Now That You're Here" (IMO the song that Haley and Keith are magical together on), but again, not my thing to be 'over reaching'.... I guess BATJ was the best combination of performance, crowd participation, and on top of that there was Keith being challenged in mid song to do the solo "I love to put him on the spot" ![]() RE: So I was in LA today..... - buzzenator - 02-24-2013 (02-24-2013, 02:07 AM)Tusk Wrote: I am one lucky Halien, and about now, I might as well just give up wondering why me? and just enjoy the ride. So I was shoveling snow in Minnesota today.... Needless to say, we all loved the recap Anthony (the Halien formerly known as Tusk) and had our own WTF moments courtesy of another Tusk adventure. So, being a classic overthinker (me, not you, well maybe you too) in the midst of many others, including Questioners...what this confirms for us. Millions of people saw and heard what we all did in Season 10 of Idol. The Haley Effect knows no boundaries. We often heard that Haley had a wide ranging demographic of fans...including a significant number of well-seasoned Haliens (just look around the room). The beauty of this type of fan base is that the more seasoned fans have greater resources but may not be as passionate outwardly as the teenagers...with the exception of the Haliens here at HF.com of course. As we have mentioned a number of times...people take greater ownership of their "finds" if they feel they discovered them on their own vs. being told to like something. Your hosts in LA have experienced the same thing we all have...Haley is an amazing singer with a huge personality and presence. We love that they organized this private party and put a lot of resources into the event and hopefully Haley's Shoe Fund...loved the heels...best keep those away from JDA. If your hosts know you from the forums, then they probably have been here at HF.com. So here's to the LA Hosts...whoever you are online ![]() I, like Miguel, got a chuckle out of the "sparring, discussing politics, religion," in the midst of the party. You wouldn't be Tusk if you didn't debate the issues of the day...hopefully you motivated a few to take their Haley passion to another level. I couldn't help but think that our fine HF.com contributors here may be more motivated to have that private party now with Haley. We have talked about the Haleypalooza in Wheeling with our host Himm2. He may not have a baby grand in the back yard, but he does have a replica of the baseball stadium. Nothing says Halien fun better than Beer, Brats and Da Bears with the Queen herself. My suggestion to Himm2 is to find out what we would need to pay (ask Harry & Patti) for Haley to perform at the HF.com Haleypalooza private party. I mean we really need a $ amount right? 30-50 Haliens making the journey and contributing from all over the country? The first annual Haleypalooza! ![]() RE: So I was in LA today..... - Himm2 - 02-24-2013 (02-24-2013, 07:47 AM)buzzenator Wrote: My suggestion to Himm2 is to find out what we would need to pay (ask Harry & Patti) for Haley to perform at the HF.com Haleypalooza private party. I have asked Harry and lets just say that it would make more sense if we arranged our Haleypalooza around an already pre-arranged Haley public performance. Harry, Patti & Haley don't negotiate the performance arrangements, the booking agency does. A meet & greet would likely work however. But back to Tusk's amazing adventure... (BTW...ever since I saw the Midnight Trio perform at Tuscany I always think of Tusk any-way I can. Tusk, thanks for your response and all the additional details. Love it!! I was not surprised that the covers got the most response. I agree that familiarity is part of the reason, but I also think it is the way Haley performs them. I was lucky to see her in Philly and it was the same way and I also see it in some of the vids. I'm not criticizing her performance in her own songs, but when I heard Oh Darlin and HORS live, she really belts it out. I have been wondering if it's because these songs are such classics or perhaps because Haley has been doing them so much longer she been able to refine them more. I wonder what others think. I have noticed and LOVED how she continues to change up and improve the performance of her own songs (like several at HOB last weekend). I think its part of the reason we all keep comin back - to see what happens next. We know Haley will continue to grow and amaze.
