I thought Avalon's "Earned It" was one of the best performances the show has had in a very long time. She looked like a guest star instead of a contestant. We also haven't seen blatant sex appeal like that from a contestant, since..well..Haley. (Although Avalon's is clearly very different than Haley's.)
I really enjoy Avalon. Agree she did a great job with Earned It. It's another double elimination and she might get eliminated this week (not that she should). This abbreviated format is ripping through contestants pretty quickly -- I rather they had shortened the beginning of the show since that was all judges choices anyway and only bits and pieces of singing were shown.
Avalon is not classic vote getter on Idol, and I don't see her as being interested in playing the idol game -- it runs counter to her style. But I hope she is there at least another week to perform a couple more times.
Sonika may be in trouble this week. Dalton and Mackenzie should be IMO but they aren't going anywhere. Lee may be OTD.

All I know is I can't wait for the season to get over with so I don't have to hear/see "Dalton" or "Rapatonni" again...don't know much about his singing, sounds basic, boy band fluff, just his whole presentation rubs me the wrong way, it just seems more about the package than what's inside with him...he could be super talented for all I know, all I see is someone thinking about what they have to do to gather as many teenage girls as possible, never mind doing what it takes to perform the best he can....
Of course, some might call that his marketability post idol, I just see a whole lot of window dressing, not musicality (IMHO)

Yea, Dalton is overrated as heck.
Although the talent has declined a lot..(and I think that's the result of the judges more than people not audition), so he doesn't stick out as being as bad as he is.
As most say, Sonika, La'Porsha, and Avalon are worth watching..but there's a decent chance both Sonika and Avalon get booted this week...

And..they literally got rid of the only interesting contestant this season.
Wow. Like, honestly..only Trent, Sonika, and La'Porsha are any good. You could cut the other half right now..but we'll probably have a Mackenzie, Dalton, Trent top 3.

Any news if Haley's performing new music this season? I heard she's bring out a single called "Better" soon.

Well marketability is nice but only if the show can launch a career, which it can't anymore because no one cares about it anymore.

That's not quite true. The most famous act to come out of a reality singing competition show since Season 10 of Idol (when all three..The Voice, xfactor, and Idol) were on...is Fifth Harmony..the act that came in third on the least popular (by far) show.
Why? Because their label invested in them and treated them like a new artist instead of expecting them to just do well because they had some exposure. If the record label is serious about promoting a new artist, they'll do the same..and the artist will have a decent shot. (Of course, I don't expect that they are.)

RE: American Idol 2016 - The end is nigh! - mercfan3 - 03-23-2016
I'm gonna miss Slezak and Melinda more than Idol.
I wanted to make this point though. Yes, there are other reasons that were losing Idol. But the general insistence of sticking unprepared teenagers and the nice white guy next door in the show, killed the show. The talent is significantly subdued and the person who should win, never wins. (It's something that, thank God, hasn't happened to The Voice yet.)
So, here are a few 20+ year old ladies (You know, the age and gender of Idol's most successful winners..) who failed to make the top 5 both because of voters and Judges dumb mistakes. And I'd argue that only La'Porsha could keep up with them.
Colette Lush - Here
Avalon Young - Dear No One/Stay With Me
Ameet Kanon - The Worst/From Time
Jessica Cabral - Hello/Hollow
Malie Delgado - Jar of Hearts
You can't tell me that those five wouldn't put on a better show than the ones we have left.
These are all current and marketable young women, and they are remarkably talented. Yet only one of this bunch made the top 24, and she was thrown in the bottom 3 the second America was able to vote. Instead, we get Mackenzie, Dalton, Trent (who can be talented, and can also be a mess..), Sonika (who is talented, but really needed a few more years..of course, if she had that time, she would have been like the girls above..) and La'Porsha (who does indeed belong with those six girls in terms of talent. )
The show died when WGWG took over, and the only minor success woman could have was by being a teen..and essentially America's sweetheart princess. (And by "success" I mean second place. Jessica, Lauren, Jena..even though Jess and Jena had to play that part, which inevitably hurt them when they got into the real world.)
