Making a great album, whether it sells big or not, will lead to bigger things. She's young, hot, multi-talented, and has shown she can make great music that's critically acclaimed. That package will open a lot of doors for her. A lot more than being a one-hit wonder from a talent show. Amen! RE: "Listen Up!" In fact, if she had debuted this week, she would have come in at No. 11, so I'm thinking she's done pretty well for a new artist with minimal promotion and no major hit single. The best is yet to come! Exactly this. As of right now, there is nothing to be TOO concerned about. All sales after this point are most likely from people newly discovering Haley. Let's not forget that! ALSO: Look at Rebecca Ferguson's sales. She's an excellent comparison, because she is about as well known as Haley is in the US right now (aka not really known at all). She also has a similar sound and album (albeit more somber and Adele like than Haley's fresh and peppy Listen Up!). Rebecca only debuted with 12k in sales with slightly less promotion. And finally, look at Kimbra's sales (not even top 50). Kimbra is a brand new artist, arguably more well known than Haley. She was featured on one of the most popular songs in the country this year -- Gotye's Somebody That I Used To Know. RE: "Listen Up!" Billboard Chart Positions - blitzen83 - 06-05-2012 Hi all, new member and big fan of Haley here. Pardon my naiveté. I'm not at all familiar with the music industry's protocol on playing music. I've been frustrated with the TV music video channels not playing "Free". I haven't seen it on MTV, Fuse or VH1 but i have seem Kris Allen's new video a half a dozen times the past few days. I've been monitoring this forum for a few weeks and I read that Haley's album has outsold Kris's. Would she get any consideration for that? Thanks! RE: "Listen Up!" Billboard Chart Positions - Miguel - 06-05-2012 Haley appeared on VH1 in late March http://haleyfans.com/showthread.php?tid=732&pid=5155#pid5155 and "Free" was played on MTV in early April: http://haleyfans.com/showthread.php?tid=772&pid=5775#pid5775 I imagine getting "Free" (or another song) in regular rotation on those networks is just as challenging as getting airplay on the radio. We've seen modest increases there and awareness of "Free" has been slowly building as a result (I see tweets to Haley on a daily basis from people saying how much they like it). I hope "Free" can reach a tipping point and climb up the charts. Once it or another single takes off the album will likely put up some impressive numbers as well. I do think - based on the sticker on the Walmart packaging - they had planned for "Free," "Oh My" and "Undone" to be singles. RE: "Listen Up!" Billboard Chart Positions - Flask Man - 06-05-2012 Not sure where things will go sales-wise, but I have perfect faith that Haley will make this work for the best regardless of the situation, so I'm not even a little stressed. She's on this, and I believe in her. My only job is to support and enjoy the fruits of her labor, and sing her praises all over the Twitterverse. ![]() RE: "Listen Up!" I was hoping the album release would have drawn more attention to those outlets. If no new potential fans hear her on these outlets then its going to be hard for her to gain any momentum.....but what do I know ![]() RE: "Listen Up!" Billboard Chart Positions - john - 06-05-2012 . Adele - "Someone Like You" Youtube views over time: Goyte - "Someone that I Used to Know" While not a perfect measure, YouTube view rates correlate with Billboard positions and airplay with respect to single songs. Various factors determine whether, and when a song takes off as a single. These graphs show that there can be a long waiting period before view rates start cranking -- even for songs that eventually get super hot. RE: "Listen Up!" Billboard Chart Positions - Flask Man - 06-05-2012 Every new artist's situation has different and unique challenges. While most new recording artists begin unknown and then watch their fame and fan base grow over time, former Idols have a reverse curve. It's a very challenging task for any of them to grow in the normal new artist fashion. Not sure any of the above comparisons have any relevance to Haley, except for the fact that Adele and Haley are both very talented. I can't predict with any certainty what will happen in the coming months, to be honest. Some say we should have complete faith in Interscope's intentions, while others think Interscope is just planning to milk Haley's Idol base and then dump her after minimal investment. I tend to be very cynical when it comes to the label, and very optimistic when it comes to Haley. Who's right? Only time will tell. RE: "Listen Up!" I'm not buying that "Flask" because if I-scope were planning to just milk Haley's Idol base they would not have given her all the control that they did on "Listen Up". I still believe that her promotions seemingly dried up once Fox was fired! But then again I probably know less than anyone that posts here.. ![]() RE: "Listen Up!"
