Well, duh, Candice hadn't just been verbally hit with a 2" by 4" a couple of minutes before she performed, so is it any wonder that maybe she doesn't display the emotion and pain? Again, duh.
I don't mean to be rude, lovinghaleyr, but here's reality: we will never know how Haley might have sung that song without the verbal bashing that she'd received "seconds" (fairly literally "seconds") before she performed that song live.
That she'd just received that "verbal bashing" and performed as well as she did, was a sign of her professionalism (although, if you really pay attention to her Haleyloonies interview with Michael Slezak, there were some folks [Ray Chew, specifically] who gave "words of encouragement" to help her do that), but without it, her performance may not have been as impassioned.
And (because Haley may never tell us), we will never know the degree that it played.

I honestly don't think that was the difference. I think the difference was in interpretation, and if we have anyone to thank for that it was Gaga..who told Haley to go for crazy stalker rather than broken hearted romantic.
I think slezak had it right with the 3 fantastic performances. Jordan's interpretation was of an innocent girl who just had her heart broken...perhaps her first love. Haley's was that of a psycho. And Candice's was of a mature woman who has almost had enough of the situation.
Haley's would be more passionate. They were both fantastic, but I love Haley's arrangement better. (The guitar and violin..sound amazing together.) And personally, I'm always going to pick Haley. But I think Candice and Haley's versions are so different..you don't have to pick. Which is another reason both are so great.

Maybe we'll never know but Haley's studio version of the song is killer.It can't compete with the actually drama of the circumstances of the one from the show but for me its got all of the pain,depth and emotion that the show version does.That's another sign of her professionalism.

for me Haley's version(don't matter the reason)make me felt all the

He did. But it was very quick and it wasn't positive. "That's probably the style you'll sing in the future." Type of comment. And then followed it up with Haley having pitch problems..
Granted, I don't think it was 19E or Jimmy that didn't want Haley. I think it was the judges and Nigel. After season 10, I think Jimmy's pulled more strings.
I'm not sure the show itself will be unhappy with any winner. But I think Jimmy wants the finale to be Angie vs Amber because they are "whole package" girls.

Thanks -- I hadn't heard the studio version. Nice. I can't help but wonder if lack of familiarity with the song wasn't of benefit to Amber. The original wasn't so indelibly entrenched in her head that she couldn't find ways to make variations (very nice variations, BTW) on the melody.
She should not have been in the bottom three because of this performance!

Well, I, for one, expect such things. I know. Silly me - I expect musicians to be -- well -- musicians.
I'm pretty sure I've raved about this gor-ge-ous version earlier, but it is undeniably beautiful. If you'll forgive an analogy: at the beginning, when each of the ladies/contestants sings the melody, it's a bud -- a perfect flower bud, with all its promise.
As a line of harmony is added, that bud is opening a bit, teasing us with it's promise of greater beauty. And at 1:39 when the harmony explodes into a fullness so rich and heavenly, so the flower is completely open and displaying it's full beauty. And, as quickly as all that glorious beauty is shown, it's over.
How well the women blended was astonishing to me! If one is going to be a soloist, one needs to develop a distinctive sound (we've all mentioned that about Haley). That can often mean that one doesn't "play well/work well/and in this case, sound good with others." (Yes, Haley always blends with others as well.) But, although each of these singers does have an unique sound, they blended together so well, that it's just a delight to listen to this performance. Yum!
I haven't been following this forum as regularly and missed this.
I really appreciated both of your comments and also hearing the studio version.
I thought I had heard a really nice interpretation live .. just that the setting wasn't intimate enough for the song and somehow it just barely missed in connection with the band (or band missed connecting to the singer etc) The studio version showed it in all of it's luster.
I love the particular parts you called out ! although i think you meant 1:58 , not 1:38

The 1:38 (or 1:39) mark was in reference to the how the harmony blossomed on the women's group rendition of "Here, There, and Everywhere." And, I definitely meant around 1:38 or 1:39 -- that's where the "bud" exploded open. (Given the events of last week, my apologies to anyone offended by my use of "explode" here, but it's the best way to explain what happened with the harmony at that point. But thanks, Tom, for making me go back to listen to it. I'd forgotten just how beautiful that was.)
I also agree that the duo of Candice and Amber on "One Bell Less to Answer" was gorgeous, and, it was truly unfortunate that Lazaro got to completely ruin an, otherwise, fairly good medley (and, "fairly good medleys" are hard to come by.)
All of which brings me to an new observation about Amber: all of the songs that she's performed the best (MFV, IBIYAM, SLH, and WAYDTROYL) are all fairly "old" songs. Which makes me worry a bit (maybe a lot) about her, given the show's propensity for manipulation and what seems to be it's current trajectory to propel her into that confetti shower.
I know that Amber has extraordinary potential (please forgive me for "doing a Paula", but I know with every fiber of my being that Amber "could be" huge). My (new) concern/fear is how malleable she may be and how Jimmy Iovine might exploit that to push her into something that isn't really her, given the proclivity for past Idol winners to produce an album that isn't necessarily reflective of their own leanings.
