RE: Next album will be blusier - abc890 - 05-30-2013 Hmmm... Wonder if her vine with the WB cartoon was a Hint... haha... She titled it "Funny How Things Work Out" and it's granny saying "Que Sera Sera" RE: Next album will be blusier - NUG - 05-30-2013 (05-30-2013, 03:28 PM)abc890 Wrote: Hmmm... Grace's sound though is really a mix of classic rock, blues & country. There's really no country in Haley's sound (and for me personally that's a plus). Btw, I realize you meant this as a vaguely general example, Tom. And I think it was a good one. I was just specifying a major difference between the two of them. I do really like Grace & the Nocs though, to the point where I will probably buy at least one of their CDs in the near future, and I hope to see Haley develop her sound over the next several years, to the point that Grace & the Nocs have developed theirs. As far as the Gooch clips. I agree that he sounds better than John in that "Let's Party" song. I think part of it is that his tone (in that clip) is smoother & not quite as over driven as John's. The style they're playing is more rock than blues though, which is OK, but I don't want that 80's hair band "Let's Party" song, they're soloing over within 50 miles of Haley. Really neither that or the flashy blues stuff he's doing over the generic 12 bar progression in the Guitar Center video, is the type of playing I'm hoping to hear on Haley's new album. THIS is more of what I had in mind. The guitarist in this clip is Mason Stoops. He played w/ ZZ Ward for a while. I actually don't know why he's not in her band now, because just going by this clip, I like him a little better than Eric Walls (Eric's good too though). From what I've seen John could do this sort of thing too. It's not like it's beyond his capabilities. BTW, I should explain that the reason the audience cracks up, when she gets to the chorus is because of the story she told about writing the song. She was staying at her brother's place, the first 2 yrs she was in LA & when he'd leave she'd call her boyfriend to come over. She then changed the song, to be kind of an answer to Etta James' "Waiting for Charlie to Come Home". Check out the guitar playing though. The solo is cool but also listen to the way he weaves bluesy phrases around ZZ's voice. I'd like to see John do more of that w/ Haley. Also this would sound just as good on an electric guitar over-driven just to the point of break up. That's a far bluesier tone than the totally overdriven, hard rock tone John & Gooch are using in those clips. Is it just me, or have you guys noticed that Haley doesn't like to come right out & tell us what's going on. She's likes to hint at things, drop subtle clues, talk in little riddles and see if we can figure it out for a while first. I think keeping things a little mysterious is something that just appeals to her (& is probably one of the things she likes about The Fab Four) but it's really smart too. She creates a lot more buzz around herself on the social media sites by doing this than she would if she just came out & told us everything matter of factly. And more buzz basically equates to additional media exposure. 30CamdenSquare, you raised a good many interesting points, all of which may prove correct, but I'm responding specifically and only to the last paragraph, because there may be other factors at play, of which we are unaware. You state that Haley likes to play close to the vest but provide little teasers to keep us hooked. I think it makes perfect sense to not be more forthcoming, and it may have little to do with "creating buzz." First, should a deal NOT be arranged with a specific label, she's kept her options open for others (i.e. hasn't "slammed the door shut") and also avoids embarrassment/discomfort for herself (and, perhaps, the named label) if/when it becomes public. Second, there may be some sort of "confidentiality" code in effect that the players are aware of, but we aren't. I work in the world of higher education, and for at least the last 25 years leaders of universities (typically the president or chancellor) have to be exceeding cautious and discreet if they are courted by or are remotely interested in pursuing a position at a different institution. If the boards of the institutions (that they are currently head of) find out, they can be fired -- immediately, even if they weren't necessarily getting the other position. All of the points that you mentioned may be right, and speculation is fun, but it can end up like the children's game wherein something is whispered in the ear of the first kid and then 30 kids later, the last one is supposed to say out loud the message he/she heard -- and, it's rarely close to what was original message. Therefore, I applaud Haley for her discretion and the way she's been handling herself since released by InterScope. The last thing I'd want is for Haley to announce something prematurely only to have the deal fall through and cause herself embarrassment or ruin another opportunity. I think the buzz created is a happy side effect of her playing it smart. I seem to remember that even after Haley signed w/ Interscope, she wasn't allowed to say anything for a month or so after... can't remember why... so I guess my point was, that when it comes to these things, if something looks like it might happen, there's a good chance that it's farther along than we realize. Maybe I read too much into things sometimes, but the fact that Alex posted her pic on Instagram, tells me that at the very least, he wanted her fans to know she was talking w/ Warner Bros. IF (& that's a big if) Warner Bros., or labels in general, don't want an artist's fans to know they're negotiating w/ that artist, before an agreement has been reached, then what does Alex posting Haley's pic tell you? Like I said that's a big if though. RE: Next album will be blusier - Miguel - 05-30-2013 I don't think Alex was trying to draw the attention of her fans. He might have posted the picture for others that were in Santorini to see. Or perhaps so his friends could see the girl he was so smitten by. If he is trying to sign an artist, it wouldn't make much sense for him to let his competitors know who he's interested in. On the flip side, if Haley has been talking to another label being seen with him could strengthen her negotiating hand. This picture though appears to have been taken at a low-key social outing. It might just be a budding friendship. He apparently has his finger on the pulse of the industry though so having a friend like that could be invaluable in terms of feedback and advice. Or it could be she is already signed and they were having a casual business meeting or taking a break from business matters. (05-30-2013, 03:28 PM)abc890 Wrote: Hmmm... I think she probably had it on disc somewhere already. RE: Next album will be blusier - 30CamdenSquare - 05-30-2013 You guys might be right, I may be reading too much into Alex posting that photo. I will say this though, Haley knows by now that her fans find everything. We've all seen her tweet her amazement concerning this before, so she knows if he posts anything, one of us (probably not me) is going to find it. It may've even been a game they played at dinner, seeing how long it took from the time he posted it, to us finding it, to spreading a rumor that Haley signed w/ WB Music that trends on twitter, resulting in a phone call to his office, from one of the Entertainment News shows to confirm the story. We can get that done by Friday can't we? ...OK that last part was a joke. RE: Next album will be blusier - midnightblues - 05-30-2013 Sorry guys im behind a little. What pic was posted.
