RE: Next album will be blusier - 30CamdenSquare - 06-06-2013 (05-31-2013, 05:53 PM)Tom22 Wrote: I liked both of your posts Camden.. just wanted to let you know I read them. Hey Tom - I meant to reply to your post earlier than this, I just haven't had enough time, the past couple of days, to write much of a reply. Glad you liked the Grace Potter tune. That new single is one of my favorite new songs right now. It has great energy, part of that is the guitar riff, but also it's just a well written song. There are parts that melody & Grace's vocal that I absolutely love. "Stars" was a big hit for them but now that they've reached this level of fame, I hope that "The Lion The Beast The Beat" will be even bigger, cause IMO it's just a flat out better song. Glad you liked ZZ as well. ZZ & Haley are really my favorite two new artists. One thing I've mentioned before is they know a number of the same people... Rob Kleiner, Chiara Kramer, Mike Daley, BJ Olin & Allen Stone. ZZ & Allen are both very much a part of the alt. rock community (especially the bluesier end). Both of them know a lot of the other artists on the rock festival circuit, who get varying amounts of airplay on either Alt Rock or AAA radio. That's a community I'm hoping Haley's able to work her way into more & more. I watched "The Thrill is Gone" vid w/ Josh Gooch & Jack Thammerat I liked that a lot better because, well it's a good song to begin w/ so there's a lot more there to work w/ in the first place. I thought both of them did a good job w/ the song, have a good feel for the blues and there were alot of cool bluesy phrases that each of them played. Here's the thing though, in addition to them both being good blues players, they're both also very good, highly trained shredders. They don't over do it or anything, but it's there. Not that there's anything wrong w/ that necessarily, but shredding is a style who's origins lie in metal & it's indicative of that style of music, so when you add that in you've got a metal/blues mix. Going back to Haley... and TBH Tom I'm not sure you're even suggesting that Josh would be a good addition to Haley's band... but metal isn't one of the genres present in Haley's style, so IDK I just don't think it quite fits w/ what she's doing. And I know she has said that her dad can "Shred pretty good" but Harry doesn't really shred, he can play fast but he doesn't use shred techniques, like I doubt you're going hear him play any sweep arpeggios. IMO the type of guitar player that would be perfect for Haley's band would be an exceptionally expressive player (like Dave Gilmour from Floyd) but w/ more focus on blues, who also likes to incorporate some jazz chords in the music (like Corrinne Bailey Rae) and uses a variety of classic rock & blues guitar tones (BB King's tone, Hendrix's "Red House" tone, Gilmour's "Another Brick in the Wall solo tone" those kinds of sounds). Who that would be I don't know, but to quote Casey Abrams "A boy can dream". She has bin spending time with her writing buds lately. She could sing it at City Walk. Hell yes. Quote:The sultry sounds of Rhythm & Blues infused with contemporary energy have birthed the new sound of PROGRESSIVE SOUL, best defined by the triple threat duo, Jackie Boyz. This Grammy-Award Winning tandem’s ability to write, sing, and perform has touched the hearts of many and has paved the way for their musical success. An interview with the "boyz" last month about a charity event they had put together: https://soundcloud.com/level-entertainment-group/jackie-boyz-interview In it they describe how they moved to LA and were singing in the streets. Miley Cyrus heard them a few years ago and told them they sounded like Chris Brown and that she wanted to get them in a studio. She was true to her word and two days later they were recording with her. The event features up-and-coming artists who are their friends. The interviewer notes that none of the acts uses a backing track or auto-tune and they play real instruments. The "boyz" say each act will each perform a cover so you can see where they are coming from and then a new song. At the 10:55 mark, the interviewer asks them to perform a song and he says they will do "Stand by Me," which they used to perform in the streets. The interviewer asks if they're going to hear some of that at the event. The talkative one of the "boyz" replies: You're gonna see a mashup of some old with some new. We have this sound we developed called "Progressive Soul. It's a mixture of soul music with today's sound of modern EDM, modern trap, a lot of different sounds..
