^^I don't think I mentioned before that Casey did exactly that. According to Haley, at the Cosmo, My Cake was originally intended to be more of a pop song. She said it was Casey's idea to jazz it up, and that she really likes the change up he did for the song. The subject came up when I told Haley I like the new direction that her music was taking with the new song.

Thanks for providing this detail! It is very interesting! I reinforces my feeling that Casey provides a very creative and original spark for Haley, especially when it comes to infusing jazz into a pop song. For me, it makes the song so much better that a cute, catchy song. I only hope she keeps this style when she records the song vs. only during selected performances. I feel this is what will make Haley stand apart and open her sound to a wider audience.

I absolutely agree with that! The Cosmo versions are interesting in other ways and have their own qualities, but the debut version with Casey is absolutely captivating for me. I can put it on a loop and not get tired of it.

I wonder. There must be someone at these concerts on a mixing board ? right? (or wrong?)
Given how "cheap" storage is these days.... does the equipment just store the performances by default these days? It would be incredible if we could "bribe" some guy somewhere for a bootleg of those channels.
With a little mixing (especially turning up Haley's mic channel on some of her softer notes which don't quite get picked up as much as I'd like them.. very especialy on "IslandsITS" ) these covers could go from great for fans to head-turningly great for non-fans.

I can't get enough of it either, Tusk. Listened to it most of Friday, and most of today, and will probably keep repeating that pattern in the upcoming week.
Haley is usually singing the melody (or improvising one), so we rarely ever hear her sing harmony. It's a treat, isn't it? The Caley version of IITS is quickly becoming one of my favorites. The harmony in that is simply lovely. She pulls out some unanticipated harmony in TMSG -- that's what makes you take notice. She does that again at the end of the Flintstones theme.
Speaking of which, I'd love to know the background of how that ended up in Casey's repertoire. I wouldn't be at all surprised if it's the brainchild of Jacob (the sax player) and has been percolating in his head for awhile.

After Haley and Casey performed "Moanin'" on AI and blew the roof off the place, J-Lo attempted to point something out (I know -- I can't believe I'm bringing her into the conversation either). I think that what she meant to say was that when Haley and Casey performed together, it's "as though they've been performing together all of their lives. Seeing that live must have been amazing, Tusk and Midnight and Yanni and Urban Sage and Rachel and .... oh, good grief, who have I left out.

I'm going to say it, that scat she does in the CityWalk "My Cake" is, IMO, one of her all time best. Right up there with her Scat on Monain' on AI.
I really love it's vibe and execution, from "Dee De de Bop de Bop Bop" to the "Bom di Bom di Bom di" and there are parts I swear she's her won echo .....
Did I mention how much I love that she did new songs in this set? WYDK, My Cake, IITS, TMSG . OM, Free, BATJ, HTGR and WT are nice performance, but I love the infusion of new songs, and all the Caley songs were previously unperformed by them, too.
I'm so ready for new Haley songs
