RE: Step Up Revolution Movie - Tom22 - 07-31-2012
(07-30-2012, 06:56 PM)My Alter Ego Wrote: I think that "Singing in the Rain" is one of the most joyful musicals ever made! Who can resist that delightful arrangement of the title song (starting with the flute intro), Gene Kelly's gleeful splashing around in the water, and that final sheepish shrug, trying to explain to the policeman he was "dancin' .. and singin' in the rain." (Cue flute fade out..)
But "Moses, Supposes" is one of my other favorite numbers from that show. From its initial "elocution lesson" purpose, to all of the rhyming, to the terrific dancing that Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor lay out, it's just fun! Gene and Donald have somewhat different styles in their approach (Gene Kelly is more athletic and wound a little more tightly; O'Connor's style seems looser and more relaxed), but they are but terrific and such fun to watch.
So, Tom, are you saying that the dancing in SU:R is like this?
Calling it like singing in the rain would bbe vastly over stating it...
... I mean.. I can't think of a more classic antic tap dance scene than that one..
yet .. the energy is there.. I don' t think any of the numbers will be memorable to me later, but there was plenty of skill and execution and enthusiasm to keep me watching without looking at my watch or something.
Now.. if the songs weren't generic dance music remixes, the same dancing might have taken another step upward in terms of over-all memorablity...
Not nearly singing in the rain.. not by a long shot.. but good clean fun and tightly executed dancing . I enjoy watching the women's floor excercises in the Olympics too and that isn't singing int the rain either. (what is ? )
