I can't believe how low Lyric 145 and Beatrice ended up...if they go in the next few shows, that would be it for my interest...

Maybe that's why they're doing it this way.. to change things up a little. I think it will pull in more people watching the show, to see where the contestants are rated.
This is a first for a singing competition. I remember a conversation during season 10 on American idol, that if they had posted the number of votes the contestants received (there was a rumor that Scotty was way ahead of everyone from the beginning), that people might have not voted figuring Scotty was going to win anyway.
but I agree with you Tusk. If your favorite contestant is near the bottom, it might make us vote more for them, and it may make them work harder.
I mean both The Voice and XFactor announced the final 12 contestants tonight. Now, I might want to watch XFactor more.
But i do feel for the contestants near the bottom.
Still cant believe "country boy" is at the top!

The Voice apparently played at the same time (tried it, hated the format) so there's a big chance the younger demographic was watching that instead of X Factor.
Which would make sense that some of the more 'current' acts, especially Lyric 145, suffered from their fans watching the Voice instead. Tate and Vino placing so high ahead of more current acts just doesn't make sense otherwise....
I think that's likely what happened....

I don't see why everyone loves the rap group so much. All they do is scream and have no talent at all. Maybe its just since I hate rappers but still, I don't get it.

I don't like all rap, but I do like some rap. Lyric 145 is more than the rap, Lyric Da Queen herself has charisma and her rap skills are above average.
I don't normally listen to rap, but I can listen to her.

Lyric Da Queen is definitely charismatic, although in this version of "Supa..." (because it wasn't "Super"), the guys had their moments as well. It certainly was an "out of the box" rendition. I can't say that I liked it. (I remember singing this song as a kid -- before I quit singing.) But it was most certainly different.

...it was their WTF moment IMO

In truth, I haven't seen "A Christmas Story" but am quite well acquainted with the other two (American movies shown at Christmas time). (My favorite Christmas movie is The Bishop's Wife. Cary Grant ( the OTT angel), David Niven (being a ninny -- and I adore David Niven), Loretta Young -- what's not to love?)
Hmmm and interesting -- while I have seen Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, I haven't seen Oliver Twist. It's been years -- well, actually a few decades -- since I saw Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and I don't remember any specific Christmas connection.
So, our dear "OverThinker," can you toss some observations along?

Oliver Twist is Dickens, so maybe a tie to "A Christmas Carol" (shown both in the States & the UK )

Well, there ya go ... To me, it's interesting, actually. Europe has a tradition of great choirs, and England has a reputation for having, if not the very finest, most certainly some of the best ("Polyphony" and John Rutter's "Cambridge Singers" are my faves). And the music for Christmas abounds, for a variety of (and obvious) reasons, but, I think, fine choirs is one of them.
Perhaps people just get tired of the typical Christmas music. I've read that the Christmas season begins earlier in England -- right about now, I think, because they don't have the wondrous, gluttonous Thanksgiving in between Halloween and Christmas.
Back to the movies, maybe the tie-in had more to do with the idea of feeling happy at Christmas. I say that, because my memories of both Mary Poppins and Chitty Chitty Bang Bang are that they are "feel good" movies without any (direct) "spiritual" connection.

Now that I think about it, the main connection among these movies, at least I thought this when I was younger...they all involved kids that had it worse than you (a kid) and you should be grateful...or perhaps that's me applying "Catholic School teachings/discipline" principles to the movies back then
Oliver Twist, an orphan forced to steal and live in squalor
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, had motherless kids and I believe, had the scary Child Catcher, who went around hunting and capturing kids.
Love this part of the movie though..
(Dick Van Dyke and friend/love interest, pose as wind up toys for the king's birthday to rescue the kids ...The monarchy hated kids and hired the Child Catcher to capture them)

Mary Poppins had children with distant/ parents who had problems keeping a sitter for their spoiled but in need of affection, children
(The last two had Dick Van Dyke singing and dancing)
My Father's Mother was from the WWII era in the UK, and that generation lived in other set of rules... I remember her washing her aluminum foil so she could re use it. Their generation didn't have the excesses we 'enjoy' today, there was a sense of frugality and being grateful for what you did have... So maybe that's why they showed movies that reflected this, people(other children) have it worse and be grateful, at Xmas time.
