I personally enjoyed their interaction. I can't say Randy wasn't feigning ignorance about things (some interviewers use similar tactics as a way to lead an interview to illicit a response, depending on where his guest wants to take it), in his defense, he has seen thousands and thousands of 'talent' and he did give Haley credit for 'winning' because she made an impression among the thousands he saw while at Idol......
I'm younger than Randy and I can say I bet my memory is far worse than his...
note: Looks like Haley is Randy's first guest to debut his podcast?

Haley’s recent interview on KVCR-FM is in the KVC-Arts archives at kvcrnews.org/arts. As pointed out, there were indeed a few items not touched on, but the publicist hired to arrange interviews kept me on a STRICT 30 minutes. I had questions about “F is for Family” AND the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra, but skipped them due to time constraint. I didn’t know about the Playboy connection, and certainly would have sequed somehow with that had I known. The Patty Farmer interview (Playboy) was actually 2 years old when her book was new – just pulled back out due to Hefner’s recent death.

David Fleming Hi Steve, I was indeed responding to your statements, which I appreciated. I wasn't able to comment or post in the section where you posted though, so I'm glad you saw this. If I'd not had the time constraint I had, I would have enjoyed (easily) speaking with Haley for a full hour or so. NOJO, F is for Family, her ealier works, philosophy toward performance... SO much more I was literally crossing off my list as I stared at the clock glaring at me.
I sure wish I'd known about the Playboy connection though

David Fleming She sure does. I'd interview her again in a heartbeat (((HALEY! Ya reading this?))). I will also admit that I had no idea who she was until the disc was sent to me (by a guy I was working with regarding Trans Siberian Orchestra?!?!?!).
I became an INSTANT fan, and appreciate the three originals on What's That Sound more than the covers - which I'm realllllllly into as well.

Thanks for posting, always enjoy reading how new fans come to hear about Haley
(That he zeroed in on Haley's originals over her covers, as a new fan, is a pretty big deal for Haley as an up and coming song writer. "Most" new fans of an artist are drawn to familiar covers sung by the artist before trying out their originals )
Also, a reminder of the type of audience who listens to Fleming, opening up to new fan possibilities who aren't fixated on Haley and Idol, is a very important step in her blossoming career

Seems Randy didn't do much homework for his podcast and I would assume he didn't do a lot to set it up either. So, why Haley as his first interview? I have a couple of theories. One is that the producers of the podcast thought that the controversy generated by Randy's verbal abuse of Haley on the show would draw some interest. After all, we still have pundits who follow the show raising the issues in interviews with her. The second theory is that one of minions working for Randy actually is a fan of Haley and decided to put her on since she has a new album out and could use the publicity.

I think it was a timing thing. Haley's publicist arranging media interviews coinciding with him launching his podcast. He probably did think it would generate a little buzz. However, it might be more a matter of him feeling comfortable starting out with an Idol tie.
Randy might be taking a casual approach to his podcast, but I felt it was disrespectful of him to not have listened to the item his guest was there to promote. It's possible they threw the interview together quickly, but for someone supposedly focused on "what's next" it came across as lazy.

One thing I found interesting was Randy's interest in Haley's management team. He used to manage Mariah Carey. He might still be interested in that side of the business. Perhaps he sees this podcast as a way for him to maintain his contacts. Haley cited ICM Partners, but he might have been thinking about the role of Simon Renshaw.

I may be way off base but I was thinking Casey's relationship with Randy might have had something to do with this podcast coming about.
As to Randy's not doing his homework, I don't get the feeling that Randy is really a homework doing type of guy.

quite noticeable how deftly Haley introduces pertinent information into their conversation, being assertive rather than passive.
