Yes it was sweet. Himm, can we invite Micheal Slezak to the next Haley shindig??

^^It might be easier to get Melinda Doolittle with my connections to the season 6 Idols (Leslie Hunt, Gina Glocksen, Blake Lewis).
Caley discussion is at 8:12 - 8:55 The rest of it is very boring. Haley's TV Line interview with Slezak was the best ever...in my unbiased opinion. Alex may sing well but an effervescent personality he's not.

Alex is not really my cup of tea but I have to admit that he seems to at least have something distinctive.

I remember the reality check were Melinda and Slezak were discussing Alex and Sam's "surprise" reactions. (There wasn't much of any) And Melinda said that either they knew about their surprises before hand or their reactions explains a lot about their performance style and personalities.

The thing is, I feel for these guys. While I don't dig their performances or music, I guess we have kinda similar personalities because I can be shy and introverted, and sometimes have a hard time expressing excitement or surprise, because I feel awkward about it. :/

When you say Candice's "arpegios/glissandos" aren't connected to the song, do you think she overdoes it? Or do you think that her choices just don't match with the song?
Another thing these shows has done for me, is like you said..sort of help me examine just what it is I like in a voice.
I can tell you what I don't care about. I don't care about pronunciation of words. Music is about sounds to me, and lyrics..unless I find them noticeably bad or cheesy, don't bother me in the least.
Like MAE, execution matters to me a lot. I like singers with a large range who are capable of vocal dynamics that can control their voice.......
First. I want to reiterate for all that I 100% understand that different ears and different personalities hear different things that they find special
It's well likely that I'm not hearing a connectedness that others hear there. Maybe a more fair way to put it was "I don't get where they're going".
I'm NOT feeling "oh that is too fancy" and NOT "oh she is showing off"...I don't think she has either intent and will give her the benefit of the doubt that She thinks they fit. I'm listening and trying to figure out why and how they connect and get jarred when I feel like they come out of nowhere and aren't part of some consistent play in the song.
"im confused" .. and in turn bothered because of my personal confusion. ... not "runs are a pet peeve of mine" or "she missed a note"(which she never does.. her runs stand alone beautifully, just don't get how they're knit into the bigger performance"
I thought Candice did have one of the most memorable idol performances ever.. in a place where I think it was mostly overlooked because it was surrounded with some mediocrity..
I'll post the link as I edit:

I can understand what people see in Michelle.. shared some thoughts on your separate thread about her.
I was really impressed with her TED lecture.
RE: American Idol 2014 - mercfan3 - 06-23-2014
Ah, I completely understand what you mean. Like you said, everyone has their preferences, but I can see that.
I thought Candice had taste when it came to runs, but I can see where someone might think that her note choices didn't fit the songs.
But like listeners have their preferences, my guess is Candice has her influences and her note choices reflect things that those influences have done.
still it's a fun topic.

Somehow, it seems too early to start the American Idol 2015 thread, but I just noticed on TVLine that it's now official that J-Lo, Harry, Keith & Ryan will be back.
Quote:American Idol‘s ratings and cultural relevance might be under siege, but its core team will continue to fight the tuneful fight for Season 14.

Because they did such a great job last season.

^^I've also read that the tour has no live band with them this year (it's a good thing so many of them play an instrument), and the kids are doing the stage set up before and break down after the show.
