Interesting response. You're right it does. My memories of music theory are just those extraordinarily tedious exercises -- and "the rules." I haven't met anyone who didn't hate that part of it!

I think it's a little too late in the game now to go back to that try to learn it all over again. The passions not there like it used to be and if you have no passion for something you get bored real quick with it.
I was in the building trade for 25 years and I taught myself six trades by reading, watching people and asking a lot of questions. It came easy to me because I understood what I was doing it's not like you just nail something together there has to be a reason why you're using a certain type of nail and you're nailing it to a certain part of the structure in that part holds up another piece. And from that point on I was able to get my California contractors license in general building and in plumbing because I understood it. I guess you could say the same thing about music is boring trying to learn everything but the reward is very significant and satisfying.

Hmm --hmm, hmm, hmm, hmm. I'm into the "life long learning" thing, I guess.
I would agree that if the passion isn't there, it grows old fast (and, believe me, for me music theory grew old with lightning speed!). However, for you, maybe it's just a matter of uncovering what's there, so you can move on.
Although, if you are content with what you're doing musically, it doesn't matter, does it?

I found this video of Harry Reinhart playing "Red House", by Jimi Hendrix , with his band Traffic Jam at PS Pub in April, 2012. I like the songs Midnight band plays better, but this showcases Harry's guitar talent.
