Was Pia Toscano "dropped" by Interscope or did she "split" from them? Where do contracts come into play in all this? It was said that Lee DeWyze was "dropped" by his label.

I interpreted as FM's (Ken) saying, 'survive' in the context, that they (Keith, John and Courtney) will also move on with their careers, not necessarily 'survive' with Haley or Interscope.
But I can totally see your interpretation from John's point of view, that, perhaps, John knew ahead of time of this decision, but Ken's response of 'survive' may have implied to John that the latter was the case, rather than the former.

It's a tough business - burn 'em and churn 'em. There are many people that this happens to (people quit or get released every day in business). I too am dissapointed and not sure what it means - that is life. I am sure she made many contacts and will continue to network and impress. She is an artist and many people appreciate her for what she does. She is young and has had the opportunity of a life time - I am sure she will use what she has earned and learned to reach her goals. She has a good head on her shoulders a great family and fans who will support her through the ups and downs. I too am a true fan and will not be going anywhere. Love the Hales!!!

(We do know that Chiara and Haley are friends), that being said, you have to admit this is a little funny

According to the report, this news comes from a 'source close to the singer', which implies that it was leaked. (Report originating from LA and not Chicago)
I wonder if there was a plan for releasing the news and the leak took Haley by surprise? (She tweeted a picture of her breakfast this morning and hasn't tweeted since)
If so, I have to believe Haley confided this info to a handful of people so I wonder if she knows the source of the leak (in LA, the origin of the report)?
Good thing that she's with family to be there for her through this

WELL yeah I am bummed. but what was Interscope doing with Haley anyway You all know the drill.. there was no promo, no new single, no tour. Lots of artists split or get dropped Dunno.As the days go by we will get more insite as to what happened.I just hope Haley looks at this with the attitude of. Things happen.I hope for something to come along her way. WTF it;s just a wait and see thing. Let's just try not to think the worst.
