LOL It was one of those, "Too Good To Be True" kind of things for me. I added up the times for the set and was thinking... What? Almost 2 hours of Haley singing for 3 days...? Can that be right? ![]() That's from a guy that drove hundreds of miles to see only 3 songs... ![]() ![]() Just too good to be true to NOT go ![]() RE: Listen Up! 2013 perspective - 30CamdenSquare - 03-18-2013 (03-18-2013, 04:58 PM)Tusk Wrote:(03-18-2013, 04:20 PM)Tusk Wrote: I've been trying to get her up here, most recently in LA Tusk, I'll bet Haley will be touring a lot after her EP comes out. I'll bet the red tape had something to do w/ Interscope even if it's "complicated". She probably won't be playing too many tiny little venues like rm 5, but I'll bet the bulk of them will be large bars... the kind are equipped w/ good stages & sound systems & are known for good live music. That's not as intimate as a few of the smaller places she's played in LA but it's still up close & personal. More often than not, I think the above is the case. Luckily, Haley has performance skills, song writing skills, musical versatility, long term foresight in decision making, and a postive outlook/personality among other attributes, on top of a sigularly exquisite and unique vocal. She also appears to be a person people seem to want to work with. She is pretty well equipped to overcome and succeed in the changing and shifting environment of the music industry. Actually I doubt they could keep people from posting but the label can get them taken down fairly quickly. Live versions can for all the songs can be up, & of the videos for her singles on Haley's channel, but if the studio versions are up of the entire album, there's less incentive to buy it. Actually I doubt they could keep people from posting but the label can get them taken down fairly quickly. Perhaps.... Can it be argued, that her presence on those videos are part of the reason she is still discussed and not a memory? I think the bots that search that stuff out might eliminate live vids too. I suppose once she's signed, that's a possibility. I think it's a larger thing than youtube videos, though. I don't know, the morals/ethics and laws over intellectual property don't line up with the rapidly advancing technologies, it's almost impossible for the former to keep up with the latter ![]() There's still file sharing, if people want it they can get it. I think Haley's building a foundation that doesn't rely as heavily on the old ways of the music industry. We've seen that the artist has to sell a hell of a lot of music to be able to justify their advance as well as recoup the Label for the making of the album. So the artist doesn't even make that kind of money from records anyway. It hits the Label more than the artist, in a way. File sharing and pirating is a reality, like it or not. So she has to diversify and create different streams of income. Song writing Credit, Touring, Marketing, Song Placement and probably Producing, in her future... I mean she's still a relative unknown, but she's building a base of respectability and quality, that will get her recognised, which would open, should open up more lucrative opportunities. RE: Listen Up! 2013 perspective - Tusk - 03-23-2013 Looking Back to see into the future: while looking something up in another thread, I found this old article/interview, that has some interesting insights from Haley about LU. It speaks a bit more about "Undone", that maybe it's Undone's 'poppy' side that isn't appealing to her to perform it... She speaks about her background and mindset while writing LU, and I wonder how much more of her writing personality we will see now that she gets to write an 'unfettered' album. http://www.realtalkurban.com/2/haley-reinhart-the-chicagoan-with-the-musical-ear-springboards-off-her-american-idol-exposure/ Quote:AllHipHop.com: On your debut album – Listen Up! – you co-wrote every song except for “Free”. As a singer and a songwriter, reflect upon a specific time or place in which you fully recognized each talent. And between the two, which skill comes most naturally for you? Quote:Haley Reinhart: I grew up in school doing a lot of poetry – mostly slam poetry – and anything that would let me get my feelings out. I started writing songs in middle school, but when I give myself the time to sit down, and reflect, and feel, and let things come out, I find that it’s very easy for me to do. I just have to give myself the chance to do so. I have always been a real busybody. Even when I was back home in Chicago, I would make so much time for my friends, and I was just all over the place. When I sat down and just took a moment of solitude, it came really easy – especially melodies. Those would just come in my head constantly, and I would try to get a voice memo down or something immediately. I had hundreds and hundreds of them on my phone until the phone broke. Quote:Haley Reinhart: “Undone” was a really big change of pace for me, because the rest of the album is very mid-tempo. It has a good groove to it, and that’s where I like to be most of the time – as far as performance is concerned. It’s different doing ballads, and it is a little bit more on the “poppy” side, especially with the repetitive “undone, undone, undone.” So it was interesting for me hopping into that world. I added a whole lot to it, and I just kind of dug deep into a darker, heartbroken place and that’s what came out. Quote:Mostly it was jazz vocal performance. I was in three combos – and I was in a big band – so I have so much respect for music theory. I know the basics, but to be honest, I kind of cheated my way through that because I went by ear. I grew up with a musical ear, so I would hear things, memorize it, and repeat it back. If I’m going to admit to it, I will, but I do appreciate everybody that goes through it, because it’s a lot of work. Quote:As far as risk taking goes, I’ve always just put myself out there and had a positive attitude about the experience, just thinking, ‘What could be bad about this? Let’s see what happens.’ ![]() ![]() ![]() dfkljs - rmd1064 - 04-22-2013 split from the Jakarta thread Not sure where this fits, but Some Random Thoughts….sorry for the length…. *Well, this travel to Asia is quite a gig for Haley. Appears she is flying on Fox International’s dime to these Asian cities to do some press and radio shows promoting Idol and perform in some showcases. And it seems like she is having a blast...this week..a stay at a “villa” in Bali- NICE! *She has been just so adorable and terrific in these press and radio spots, and is really knocking it out of the park with her performances…Okinawa was wonderful with the band, and the amazing acoustic performance last week in Malaysia…especially of “Mercy”…wow…As she does this, she continues to build and enhance her world wide brand…. She should really consider a stop in the Philippines… *Speaking of world wide brand, I saw The X Factor New Zealand audition--and isn’t it something..a young girl influenced by Haley, does a great rendition of HOTRS, mentions her name even and brings down the house…meanwhile, the judges and the audience apparently are well aware of Haley. *I have to think that sales and downloads of “Listen Up” continue to grow as more and more people see Haley live in Asia and other places. I would love to hear that it hits 100,000 in sales sometime this year. * I doubt that American Idol will have Haley on before the end of this season, as she is not promoting anything, but an appearance would probably give a huge boost to “Listen Up”. It appears they are having flashback segments, like Clay Aiken performing “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, and Haley performing HOTRS would fit right in there. *I sent a Tweet to Chiara noting how well Hollywood Records is promoting ZZ Ward. ZZ has been on an extensive US tour, made several TV appearances, and she even had a 45 released for National Record Store day on Saturday. I suggested in the Tweet that hopefully Haley is considering Hollywood Records and vica versa. *With all this travel and exposure, it is plain that Haley is not only a US star, but a rising international star… I can’t believe record companies are not fighting to sign her…and maybe they are…who knows… Haley mentioned Atlantic Records specifically in one interview. But, it sure is frustrating to see ZZ Ward, who is terrific—and good for her--- getting so much support from her label… Hopefully we will hear good news on Haley and her new music when she gets back from all of this travel… RE: Jakarta - April 27th? - Miguel - 04-22-2013 I'm hopeful the turnout/buzz around these performances will help convince someone to sign her. I wouldn't be surprised if she already has suitors and she's just going through with her obligations all the while mulling her options. It could also be a 'wait and see' kind of thing, where she wants to finish her EP, have something to show, so she has 'leverage' for negotiating. Come with something to negotiate with rather than, as a desperate artist looking/begging for someone to sign them. Haley has shown that she is a deliberate thinker and is honest to herself as to the merits of each situation. Came to Interscope with a plan which convinced them to give her the time and resources to execute that plan. I would have loved to hear her in that session, convincing the big wigs to give her a chance to write her songs, make her album.... ![]() ![]() ![]() I think she already has people wanting to sign, she's smart enough to know that she would prefer to come with bargaining chips of her own ![]() (obviously a fan's conjecture, but not entirely 'far fetched') ![]() |
