I've probably said it before somewhere, but, for me, one of my all time favorite live moments was when Haley sang I Who Have Nothing on the show. I mean, the whole build-up to the song was even part of it. Haley got picked apart and humiliated by Randy, even driven to tears (not to mention having her wardrobe moment spoiled by being called out early for that extra salt in the wound moment). And then, not only did she come out and sing one of her most emotionally charged performances, but she knocked it out of the park! I gotta tell ya, when she did that little gasp at the end I got choked up and teary eyed. I even jumped up and cheered and clapped with my own little standing O. What a totally vindicating moment that was. Whew! Take THAT Randy! LOL.

Ellebee, this performance was my favorite as well. Why? Several reasons:
1.) the sheer unexpectedness of it;
2.) Haley's insane scatting;
3.) the musical chemistry between Haley and Casey;
4.) the audience reaction; and finally
5.) Ryan shouting "I want to go to the judges!" (The judges commenting on performances during results night wasn't common that year.)

Good synopsis MAE. A great duet that was unlike anything else I've seen on AI. Haley and Casey were really in sync, which is all the more amazing given it was the first time they sang together (I think) on stage aside from the group numbers.
I imagine Mayfield was impressed with this one, assuming he took a look at it after Haley came to his club.

It was unexpected. Haley's scatting was insanely beautiful.
Whenever a contestant covers a song that Haley did on one of these shows, and a fan of theirs expresses the notion that Haley can't compare, I want to say, "Okay, let's see them do that."

After watching the performance again tonight, I would add one more thing to your list MAE. Haley's facial expressions and movements fit perfectly with the song. She starts her part by singing kind of out of the side of her mouth with lots of action around her eyes. She turns and waggles her head as she sings that she's so tired of of singing those blues. She just kept flowing through the entire song.

Yes indeed, that was one of the touches that made for a sublime performance by Haley. And Casey did a nice job of holding up his end of the conversation.
As a side note, one of the cool things about he BG concert was seeing Haley get into that "zone" where it all flows naturally and easily, while she's flushed with vitality from the band and the audience.

^^Ha! Actually, I thought that I was excessive in my five points above, and thus, decided to stop. But good points, both John and Tusk. I'm happy to see that list be a foundation to which others may add.
John, I agree with you about what Mayfield might have thought in listening to Moanin'. And it doesn't make an ounce of sense to me that he wouldn't have done some homework before extending his invitation to Haley to join him at Carnegie.
