My bday is a few days before the concert. ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Irvin Mayfield extends new invite to Haley - My Alter Ego - 09-20-2013 (09-19-2013, 08:38 PM)Haleylvr4evr Wrote: Honestly, after thinking about it, I don't think I should go to this event. I've never really been a fan of instrumental classical/jazz music (it has always been really boring for me) which is why I always avoided going to my brother's band concerts at school. And if its like last time, Haley will only be singing 2-3 songs. Plus its not like I'll be missing it because the site says it will be broadcast on the radio and I know you guys will get lots of pictures! If you don't care for jazz, it would probably be wise of you to save your quarters for other things. New Orleans jazz takes a "particular" type of appreciation. I love jazz -- small combos, mind you -- but I prefer to avoid N'Orleans jazz, except once every 10 blue moons -- then only in small doses. Or something like that. ![]() (09-20-2013, 01:49 PM)buzzenator Wrote:(09-20-2013, 03:22 AM)Himm2 Wrote: Buzz are you in or were you just joking? - (Not that you ever joke or anything). Himm and Babbs, are you almost Thanksgiving babies? No - I'm an Election Day Baby - Tuesday November 4, 1952 - Eisenhower vs. Stevenson. My mom stopped at the voting booth on the way to the hospital to deliver me and voted for Stevenson, which is why she named her SON STEVEN (but with a "ph") Glad she didn't name me EISEN HOWARD. What I'm not fond of is the instrumentation (usually) and often those points when everyone starts ad libbing at the same time. I want to hear what each person is doing individually and my hearing can be overwhelmed by all the diverging sounds. But often, that's also when the most joyous music is created -- a joyousness that can overwhelm in a good way! Hopefully, those of you attending will be treated to that at some point in the evening and you'll leave the concert with your spirits soaring. Babbs, I hope we'll meet sometime as well and I suspect we shall at some point. (BTW, is your birthday closer to Veteran's Day?) So very, very true! ![]() RE: Irvin Mayfield extends new invite to Haley - Babbs234 - 09-20-2013 MAE, I have a feeling you're a Scorpio too! That's why you're trying to pin me down to my exact bday! haha My cousin is a jazz pianist in Chicago, who has his own jazz combo. My husband and I used to go see him play around town. He has his own recording studio, and has played on Broadway in The Wiz, toured with James Taylor and played backup for Jennifer Hudson. He actually won a contest when he was 13 for writing his own symphony, and the Chicago Symphony orchestra played it as part of the prize. KEEP attention boys, some of your are walking on the razor edge ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: Irvin Mayfield extends new invite to Haley - Himm2 - 09-21-2013 Just checked the Chicago Theatre/Ticketmaster site and it says: Tickets Not Available Online Tickets are currently not available online for one of the following reasons. Please check back for availability. * Tickets may not be available at this time. More tickets may become available later * On rare occasions, tickets may only be available at ticket outlets or the box office The four of us that are committed to this event have only seen Jazz-oriented Haley in youtube videos and not as a live show like Carnegie Hall and the Cosmopolitan was so now we can be more well-rounded Haliens. Being well-rounded has nothing to do with our waistlines. I sense Haley might be more involved than she was at Carnegie Hall if she is the only bonafide vocalist that is invited and the Chicago audience is more knowledgeable of Haley than the NYC audience was. To further rationalize/justify spending what could be $40 to $60 per Haley Song, ya gotta admit seeing Haley with a huge audience in Iconic Carnegie Hall or the Grand Chicago Theatre with the 18 piece New Orleans Jazz Orchestra is slightly more prestigious than sharing the mic with mom at PS Pub. |
