In an ideal world this was expected and another keyboardist has been rehearsing with the band while they were doing the promo tour. Christopher Keyes doesn't appear to have been kept in the loop:

In a tweet made 2/15, he referred to Courtney Leonard as his "good friend." Seems like he would have been given a head's up if they planned to bring him back. So either this was unexpected or there's been a third keyboardist below our radar the entire time.

Didn't we hear in one of Haley's many interviews, I can't remember which one of them though, Haley say that her keyboard player was a female and didn't she appear to be quite excited about that?

Quote:THR: You auditioned people for your band, almost like you were the Nigel Lythgoe that day. How was that process?
Reinhart: It was fabulous. I had them learn the Allman Brothers’ "Whipping Post," Sly & the Family Stone "Sing A Simple Song" and then a little bit of "Freddy Freeloader," a jazz tune. So they got to show me complete opposites. Like, I wanted to know that they could do rock and funk and jazz. They killed it. There were an incredible amount of amazing musicians there, but it was really hard. So that's why I had my folks to help. I’d be, like, “Sorry, if I look like I'm rude, it's just because I need my parents on the line.” So I had some good feedback, but all in all, you have to go with your gut. I went with my instincts and I think I have a really tight group of people, including a girl on keys.

I'm trying to dovetail it—to graduate with a 4.0 and ramp up the next stage simultaneously. I'll probably try some time in New York, mostly because all their clubs have pianos! I'm hoping to be on the road more than half a year if I can swing it.
...I would love to even go on tour as a keyboardist. I definitely want to continue to be my own artist—and taking on anything I can on the way. It's all part of being a working musician and driving my own career.

She also says, "My parents have been full-time artists since 1979. They're my biggest supporters and advisers on the business end." They might have decided Neara was making some headway in LA and that momentum would be lost if she settled into the role of Haley's keyboardist.
Or it could be hearing Haley on stage talking about her dreams coming true made Neara think more about her own dreams.

Yeah...maybe she should try out for American Idol.

Is it possible Neara didn't want to leave the band?
