I certainly prefer the more organic..sound though. But in terms of "liking" I certainly like anything that isn't just pure screaming. But I'm totally with you in not preferring this synthetic pop sound.
I really think Timberlake does a good job of mixing a more organic sound..and still making it more modern. Lyrically, he's not the deepest..but I'm okay with that. My only real issue is the 8 minute songs. I just don't have the attention span for that.
Where do you see Candice fitting in somwhere post Idol.To me she has an accessable voice and its got warmth as well and I think its distinctive enough as well.

I like Slezak's idea, of her becoming the American Adele. (Granted, I thought that's what Haley was about to do.) Where do you see her?
I just hope she's supported well, and promoted well, because she's so talented. It's so heartbreaking to see a lot of talent, like Haley for instance, go virtually unnoticed in the music world.

LOL-I don't know--that's why I asked you.Her voice sounds -"vintage" to me.But not like it wouldn't fit into a modern setting.After she did "You've Changed"I heard a an affinity for jazz with a strong R+B flavor but that's not likely to be a first step.I hadn't thought about Adele although that's an interesting comparison

And, I'll say it again, if Haley had survived at this point, we would never have had that version of BATJ. (Scotty was untouchable in terms of votes, and the runner up on Idol doesn't get a swan song.)

I think that Adele's making "vintage" "chic" again (although in some areas -- fashion, being one -- "vintage" has always been trendy.) So, yes, Candice may be a bit vintage, but she's got a voice that's like a good wine -- it gets better as it matures.
I picked up on Candice's jazz affinity when she sang "Ordinary People." And I hear it in almost everything she's done on Idol (not "Somewhere"), but the funny thing is, I suspect Candice doesn't know that about herself, unless someone like Ray Chew has told her about it.

I think I've read before that Candice considers herself to have jazz influences. But she's got a lot of flavors. She's got Diva in her. She's got 90s R&B, she's got soul, she's got classic R&B, she's got jazz. She's even got a little bit of blues.
I'm not sure what type of album she wants to make though. But I do think one similar to Adele would be a good fit with her. But she could go down a lot of different avenues.
I'm also with Slezak though, and I hope she doesn't try and cater to the 14 year olds. I don't want synthetic Candice music.

No -- that would not be good. Hopefully, the "Lady Glover" is sensible enough to recognize that trying to cater to mercurial tweens and teens will never be to her benefit. She needs to "cater" to those of us who: a.) have good taste; b.) are more stable in our "likes/dislikes"; and c.) have some disposable income.

I'm sure that the speculation and the rumor mill concerning the judges and next year will be in full bloom for the near future.One left,the other three are gonna get the axe. J-Lo might come back.All kinds of possible names for next year are being tossed around.Bieber,Jay-Z,Madonna,Kanye,Timberlake,Harry Connick-I'm sure the list will grow.

If TPTB continue to follow that line of "thinking" (expensive and ineffective), then the merciful thing to do would be to shoot it (the show).

Glad to see I wasn't the only one that thought Angie's Elton John Cover was one of her best performances of the season.
It was weak they didn't have a 'contestant's choice'.... We might have never had Haley's "What is and What Should Never Be"

As we are at the Final Two of American Idol this year, I am curious: the other day I read a blog about the fact that in 2011, after Haley was eliminated, Lauren Alaina was having a lot of throat problems and there was a possibility that she could not compete or perform against Scotty in the Final.
The blog noted Haley was at the Fox studio, in costume, and rehearsing songs the day of the Final. But ultimately Lauren was able to go on.
Has Haley ever confirmed or denied that story? Seems so unlikely, but who knows...
