And to come in and do the job he did when he didn't really have that much experience is amazing. Yeah, I like Carson more. But, you have to admire Ryan. Idol is faster paced and has more going and he handles it superbly. And, he has stuck with it from beginning to end, the only one to do so. He should be admired for the job he has done. There was a time and a place for Idol, and Ryan Seacrest was probably the best at making it a really big thing when it was a big thing. I'm not sure Carson could do the "This is American Idol" as well when it was a 20 million people audience and deservedly self-important. The Voice has always been a more intimate sort of thing ... more like the Tonight show or David Letterman or something... or a game show. Ryan has toned it down to fit current times more. There was a period where he looked like he was wearing a tuxedo even before finale nights (just perfectly coifed) .... and stuff that flew before (which I always hated) like "who will america send home" (when America was always voting for people, not against people) and the ultra drawn out toying with emotions of contestants and audience before actually spitting it out who got eliminated.... well that fit the times I guess. I don't think that sort of manipulative thing flies with kids current preferences...not sure if it was a cultural shift in the US or just worked because it was a novelty and part of a kitsch that wore out it's welcome. Some how I never really got excited with Carson's pumping up the crowd but...there is an approachable about him. (atlhough to be fair Ryan has some one on one charm with contestant interviews in the auditions etc... all in all I think I prefer Ryan hands down even if I don't think he'd work as well with The Voice format) RE: S10 - Tusk - 03-30-2016 58 “American Idol” Alums Reveal What The Show Meant To Them ![]() Quote:To me, American Idol stands for opportunity. How we decide to handle this roller coaster kind of life is up to each individual. And although we receive a golden ticket, it is the furthest thing from a free ride. Behind the scenes, everyone called it ‘star boot camp.’ I needed it; we all needed it. RE: S10 - Miguel - 03-30-2016 That is a nice, considered response by Haley. One that reflects her focus on both the business and artistic side. Scotty: Quote:“It changed my life. It really did, when it boils down to it. I went from your local grocery store bagger to American Idol and living my dream. Making country music has always been my dream, and Idol gave me a chance to capture my dreams.” RE: S10 - lovinghaleyr - 03-30-2016 [quote='Miguel' pid='57351' dateline='1459364862'] That is a nice, considered response by Haley. As all we know Haley is a very smart person then she never will burn the bridges or shut the doors she may be need to cross in the future ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: S10 - mercfan3 - 03-30-2016 Haley is always so intelligent and so classy. With Ryan, I agree..Carson's personality would not have worked with Idol in it's heyday. But I like Carson's dry laid back conversational approach. It feels less scripted..and honestly less professional, but a little more warm. But at the end of the day, Ryan is one of the stars that American Idol discovered. It'll be honestly interesting to see what he does next. RE: S10 - Outcast - 03-31-2016 ![]() Quote:“Idol means many things to many people. It gave me a career doing what I love, friends for life, and the once-in-a-lifetime chance to perform for millions of people. It gave us all the chance to show the world what we’re made of and who we are. I’ve met celebrities that bash it in public, but admit to watching and voting at home. That’s fucking awesome! Idol is the original, and I’m proud to be a part of the extensive family. It’s dysfunctional, talented, diverse, entertaining, and I’m sorry to say it’s over. Rest in glory, American Idol. Thanks for everything.” I think he's referring to Dave Grohl in particular. He's posted on Twitter about the stage wear he's purchased/obtained for his appearance, including a custom made hat and pants. RE: S10 - Outcast - 03-31-2016 ^He sure is and so am I ![]() I wish Haley and Casey could be there too, ah it would've been killer to have all 3 of them on the Idol stage together one last time. Happy that Naima will be there as I like her as well. Loved reading the details of the Idol tour he shared in the article. |
