According to the lawsuit, Cassetty claims that McCreery, 19, offered to pay him 15 percent of all gross revenues. But McCreery's mother, Judy, stepped in and offered only two percent, the lawsuit claims.
Cassetty started managing McCreery after he was released from XIX Entertainment, the company he was contractually obligated to work after winning American Idol. Judy McCreery told Cassetty in an October 2012 email that Cassetty was “unofficially official” their new manager, according to the suit.
Cassetty started managing Scotty McCreery then but an official management agreement was never memorialized. The suit claims that the McCreerys kept assuring Cassetty that he would be paid at the “industry standard” of 15-20 percent of gross revenues. The lawsuit calls those claims “fraudulent and deceptive.”
Cassetty is asking for a money judgment including actual, consequential and punitive damages. Don Passman, a Los Angeles-based attorney representing McCreery, declined to comment on the case Monday afternoon.

Rookie mistake.
How much could Scotty have made in six months? He's probably suing for projected gross revenues over the length of the unsigned contract.

Indeed it is a rookie mistake, although probably one made in good faith (I'm never certain how "good faith" really fits in legal disputes.) Curious use of the word "memorialize," although I suppose "fully executed" (the term used in my office) sounds almost as bad.

His story contradicts itself.
It said Scotty said he'd pay 15% and his mother said they would pay 2%. Then he later says the McCreery's promised the "industry standard of 15 to 20%."
I've got a feeling the deal was changed to 2% and now he wants 20%. Unless it's really frivolous, it'll probably be settled out of court anyway.

Um but he still did the work and so should get paid his fees. Maybe Scotty is still under the influence of his overbearing stage mom but if these really are his own words I'm rather disappointed in his character and conduct. This Cassetty guy did a friggin awesome job keeping Scotty busy with gigs while other Idols have to make do with the incompetency of 19 Management.

I think memorialize speaks to announcing publicly. There are other ways to prove contractual agreements if dispute occurs. A signed document just makes it easier to prove.
Reads like during the course of their partnership, more than likely, there will be plenty of evidence whether he worked as Scotty's management or not.
The 2% offered to manage Scotty by his mother is so 'lowballed' for the service that I can see it being evidence that his mother didn't deal in good faith, and, perhaps, never intended to hold up what is expected to be their part of the agreement. At least she could have made a more reasonable offer. 2% is unheard of and unrealistic.
Besides, Scotty is an adult now, is there evidence that he agreed to have her negotiate for him now that he no longer 'needs' her supervision?
'Stage parents' are an obnoxious part of the industry. Sure they are needed for younger artists, legally, but more often than not, they use the opportunity to draw some of the spotlight from their child onto themselves. Fame by proxy
How often have we heard the Reinharts say the decision is their daughter's? They have never interfered as far as we know, been there for advice if needed and don't even care to take any of the spotlight. In fact, it has been Haley that has drawn them to events. They live their own lives with pride in their children.

ain't that the truth Tusk!...and from what I've observed from Scotty's mother at the 4 Idol Tour Meet & Greets, she was obnoxiously promoting her son with a bit of disdain for Scotty's Fans as the first 8 seconds of one of my youtubes shows:
a bit snobbish, not like Lauren Alaina's mom who was always eager to please her daughter's fans even if she too prodded Lauren to greatness for her own celebrity status.
The Reinharts are perfect rockstar parents, proudly guiding but letting their child follow their own destiny and providing assistance when asked.
