Slezak was so naive about this show from the beginning. For someone whose watched this show so closely..how did he NOT know that Scotty was going to win. In a landslide. Biggest landslide ever. He was like everything an idol watcher loves. Wrapped up in a completely likeable package for non country fans. Laid back, humble, home grown..with a sense of humor. Yea..there was no beating it. In a strange way it made Haley's ride even more enjoyable for me. It was always "god, I just want to hear Haley sing one more song..because I want to see what she's going to do..and I want another recording..and I just love her and her voice.." It was never "I WANT HALEY TO WIN." There was no competition..it was just a Haley concert. Admittedly though, that was my favorite final 3 ever. Haley takes the cake, obviously. But Scotty and Lauren were my early favorites. There was no competition..it was just a Haley concert.I went in rooting for Lauren and James (despite the terrible edit he was given at the beginning ![]() I remember, for me, it wasn't so much, "Scotty has this all the way' (he was still holding his mic sideways, looked like Alfred E Neuman/George Bush, always sang country no matter the theme...etc). I thought The Chosen One was Lauren, and I thought Durbin had enough talent and charisma to make a run. Pia was a huge early favorite too.... IMO Scotty wasn't necessarily the 'no doubter' for the season. Once I was 'all in for Haley' it was more... Quote:crap this might be her last performance--------They hate her!------Holy crap that was good!--------OMG she made it!! Each week it seemed possibly her last week, but each week she came back swinging, knocking it out of the park, all fields over every fence!! Each week was about surviving to perform just ONE. MORE. It became about being greater and greater each step in the journey being more exhilarating than the step that preceded it. I remember thinking "OMG she's doomed" when they announced she was going to perform an unrealeased song, "You and I', and being SURE, this was her last week ..... Then jumping off my couch as she went into that final chorus "You and IIIIIII!" Then HOTRS ![]() (The Idoloonies for this week is epic, she's in Part 3 ![]() Man what a rush watching her during S10 was ![]() ![]() ![]() (Thx for reposting the handy dandy links F8 ![]() RE: Two Haley songs cleared to sing on American Idol - mercfan3 - 04-25-2013 Really? I knew from the beginning. He said a few words and then sang, and I was like "Winner." He pretty much slaughtered everyone in voting every week. Which didn't shock me. RE: S10 - Babbs234 - 04-25-2013 I always enjoy rewatching Haley's rise to the top. (having rewatched and reread Slezak's comments a few times). From cannon fodder to rising star! I love seeing how the comments slowly turn in her favor to all out adulation. ![]() RE: S10 - Swansteel - 04-26-2013 Each week I really did hope and pray that Haley wouldn't be eliminated simply so I could buy more iTunes singles. I actually looked forward to hearing what she would sing next with HUGE anticipation. I dreaded the thought of her not being on the show any more and it got so bad towards the end that I would check the internet with its three hour time difference for show results so I wouldn't pass out from stress while watching the show. That way if I knew she wasn't being eliminated that week I could just enjoy the show and on her final night I was at least prepared for the bad news. RE: S10 - Ronzoni - 05-09-2013 anyone hear anything about Season 10 Pia Tascano performing at the Idol finale? Her twitter site seems to point in that direction. RE: S10 - Tom22 - 05-09-2013 I'm with merc . I thought Both Scotty and Lauren had real merit as singers. I couldn't take offense that some people preferred country music or the personalities of the two more southern kids.. a singer's personality does come through in a peformance .. even just listening - We all have different sense of humor .. and probably similar sense of other things. Side point: Complimenting one artist.. even an artist singing the same son never takes away from another in my book... especially when the singers have different styles or sing the same covers differently. I think the bad treatment the judges gave Haley ultimately helped her supporters turn out... I know I voted 5 times more than I would have had Randy not dissed her. I went from voting a lot to voting an embarrassing number of times out of anger. She was so great I would have voted maybe 20 times for her twice my record voting ever back then. After Randy started dissing her I started casting 100's of votes.. I think 250 text's one time. I know I wasn't alone from people like MS 's reaction. I'm sure the scale of the anger more than made up for the cusp voters easily swayed by judges. Season 10 was really super top to bottom. Just for fun, here's one I hadn't seen for a long time... all the girls except for Lauren: Here is one of Scotty and Lauren ... there is no question they're of professional quality. Yeah there's a bum note here and there but let me see Blake Shelton and Amanda do too much better at a song they just released for a few weeks.. especially when they were under 18. The kids have talent and Lauren's voice is better in terms of expression .. putting the breaks in her voice at the most expressive points ... charm and warmth that felt true to who she was etc .. than I personally related to in any contestant in season 11 or season 12. I can say the same about Scotty ... he was sincire and knew how to use his intrument to express (he didn't have the a power voice to do any justice to a couple country songs he was given - but he'll get better, especially with his gut for the music) Doesn't mean i rushed out to buy her albums because, well I don't really need stories from 17 year old girls that her own material would gravitate around: This was fun too... James is incredibly flexible (flexible is not one of Scotty's virtues -- his elvis was super but still mostly country) .. and James does the hard work with the Harmony but .. better harmony than we've heard the last two years .... The video if you keep watching past first the commercial and then the Country song continues on to James singing with Judith priest in his more chosen style but he pulls off the country and super harmony . Just to play the best ever again... sorry for the add in the link but fremantle is blocking so many others. (can't embed it .. sorry) RE: S10 - kaypea - 05-09-2013 Haley stands out not only as my favorite singer ever on Idol but also for the "ride" she had on the show. From the bottom three finishes to her "late arrival"for alot of people with BATJ to singing a jazz classic with Casey to the tension with Randy Jackson to being knocked down twice and getting off the canvas each time to score a knockout with HOTRS and IWHN to falling down and not missing a beat on the Zeppelin song and scoring yet another standing O its unmatched for the sheer drama, suspense and sense of surprise that she brought to the show. Without the supporting cast of other Contestants and their talents and united fight and spunk Haley might have not shined so bright or been trodden on even more to the point that she wasn't even allowed to perform what she did. Also, I didn't watch season 1 ... I think I would have dropped out of my seat seeing Kelly sing half of her songs... "Stuff like that there" (on the video -- facial expressions and all) just absolutely floors me. I'm not sure of her 'arc" with Kelly but I've really loved all her performances when I see them. She was "dissed" by Simon on a couple occasions I believe on top of being doubted early. (but why oh why does Freemantle make is so hard to watch decent recordings online... put it on their own site with commercials peppered in if they must but let us know where they are) |
