I didn't care for either of the songs that she sang and I don't like her phrasing, but Harry's right: the seeds are definitely there.

I don't know-I try not to jump to too many conclusions after just the audition.I listened to some of Melanie's originals and wasn't all that impressed with the songs themselves. But I also remember that,for me,with Haley that it wasn't love at first sight either-and I'm not alone in that respect.
But I like what I heard from Melanie tonight and its obvious that I wasn't the only one to think of Haley after hearing her.
Also have to say that I loved what I saw from Harry Connick tonight.He wasn't afraid to tell it like it is where he saw fit and he's really funny too.

The only thing that resembled Haley for me was the hair, other than that she was vocally closer to average than Haley, IMO. Of course that's an initial opinion, based on just one performance
This gal is the 1st one that popped for me, her voice is not the strongest and has room to grow, but she has alot of everything else, IMO

I dunno, I immediately knew that Haley was a great vocalist. I liked Scotty and Lauren too, but Haley's voice stuck out to me.
I think it was obvious that her range wasn't as large. And I doubt she has Haley's superwoman vocal control.
But she does have a fantastic tone, and she stays in tune.
I'm not trying to be negative towards her. There aren't too many singers I put on Haley's level. I'm just saying, I can see the reason that there are comparisons (the hair and rasp), but IMO, she's clearly not as good. (And that's okay. I've liked plenty of singers who aren't nearly as good.
)edit: Really really liked Jess tonight. (Just throw a bluesy rocker chick out in front of me...I'm so easy..) I think Bria has potential but she's a little over done right now. I also liked Kristen and Emily from they clips I saw.
