(if Tusk was able to use the audio from my Carnegie DVD) He saved my Lollapalooza life for me with his audio. RE: So I was in NY Today..... - Tusk - 10-17-2012 Thnx Babbs and Himm2, for a 10 minute video, I was worried that I would have enough images to fill it. It all sort of wrote itself once I found out the story about the trumpet. ![]() It really is cool how he imbued it with a mythological significance, like the creation of a magical instrument that has a kind of sentience by its signigicance, representing where his father died and symbolic of the people and culture of New Orleans. Here's something a bit peculiar.... The vid I made of Irvin's last song at Carnegie, I originally titled, "May He Rest In Peace", even though the audio clearly has Irvin call the song "May His Soul rest in Peace". I was really tired that I put the 'wrong' Title to the video...I realised it and renamed it what you hear on the video. I then happened across an article about the song, in this one, the song is called “May He Rest In Peace,” ...what I oringinally, 'mistakenly' titled my vid... ![]() http://www.zimbio.com/Irvin+Mayfield/articles/hVY_bYjDYj6/New+Orleans+Jazz+Orchestra+Celebrates+10+year and yet another article calls it, "May your Soul Rest in Peace,".... ![]() http://www.jazzchicago.net/reviews/2008/NOJO.html and lastly, this article which has the song called what we hear in the audio from Carnegie, "May His Soul Rest In Peace,'' ... http://www.allaboutjazz.com/php/article.php?id=23973 So what do I call it? Typical Jazz title for a song, fluid and changing LOL ![]() RE: So I was in NY Today..... - Babbs234 - 10-17-2012 ^^^ Tusk, it was so cool that Irvin actually commissioned a trumpet dedicated to his dad! Wow! The trumpet is amazing! Looks like it belongs in a museum or something. Just showed your video to my son. He was very impressed! ![]() ![]() And I like "May His Soul Rest In Peace" for title. RE: So I was in NY Today - My Alter Ego - 10-18-2012 ^^Thanks, Tusk, for putting together that video along with the audio. And bringing to our attention the story behind the trumpet Mayfield had commissioned in memory of his dad. From one of the other vids I saw (from the Carnegie concert), I thought he was playing a Monnette (which has been Wynton Marsalis' signature horn for many years). I did a bit of research on those last summer. Just a standard horn made by David Monnette costs an astronomical amount (the mouthpiece alone is around the cost of a decent King back in my playing days), so I don't even want to think what this one must have cost. Also, while I imagine it probably isn't, with all the extra metal in the braces, it looks like it would be heavy. In case anyone is interested in more info about the Elysian Trumpet, here's a url: http://www.elysiantrumpet.net/ BTW, Tusk, I'm quite late to the party (had computer problems last week), but thanks for all the great stories and I'm very glad you had such an extraordinarily terrific time! Tnx MAE, glad you enjoyed it ![]() I actually have that link in my video description along with contact info and twitter for Mayfiel jr and NOJO. I also posted a link to the 'story of the Elysian trumpet" from Monette's point of view (with videos about the artists and construction process) from his site, where I got many of the imgs: http://www.monette.net/newsite/online/Newsletter2007Fall/ElysianTrumpet.htm Here are the videos from the site about the trumpet and the symbols on it and what they represent: Irvin plays the first notes from the trumpet Mayfield performing with the trumpet So...yah, you might say attending Carnegie had an impact on this 'non Jazz-Head' LOL ![]() RE: So I was in NY Today..... - Tusk - 02-23-2013 Quote:Chrissy Miller@chrissy_sings ![]() Quote:Haley Reinhart@HaleyReinhartAmazing, indeed ![]() ![]() Quote:Chrissy Miller@chrissy_sings RE: So I was in NY Today..... - lovinghaleyr - 02-23-2013 (02-23-2013, 03:12 PM)Tusk Wrote:Quote:Chrissy Miller@chrissy_sings WOW:if this is not an direct invitation I don't know wath it's ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() RE: So I was in NY Today..... - Tusk - 07-07-2013 Inspired by Yanni posting his vid, I decided to post my attempt at sneaky recording.
