R&B was about the only genre that wasn't represented (some might argue that was what Stefano was trying to represent). THIS. Season 10 was so awesome. Wierd, the other day I posted something similar on MJ's blog about sinking ratings. I said ratings were bound to decline due to many factors--many beyond AI's control. But, if TPTB had cast the right contestants--it would keep some viewers from abandoning ship. They didn't do it. I went on to talk about the season 10 stuff. I know there are plenty of people on MJs who don't agree. But, that was the last entertaining season that really got buzz--and that was due mainly to the contestants. Proof in the pudding was the successful tour. RE: Idol ratings drop -- Did they shoot themselves in the foot in shooting down Haley? - mercfan3 - 03-10-2014 I think you have to include season 11 as a season that got buzz. Incredibly talented cast, and Phillip Phillip's has become the biggest star since Carrie Underwood. It wasn't reality television perfection like season 10, but it was Idol's last hurrah. RE: Idol ratings drop - Miguel - 03-10-2014 Phillip's done well since Idol. But Idol didn't fare well that season: Quote:'American Idol' 2012: Record-low ratings for Phillip Phillips victory RE: Idol ratings drop -- Did they shoot themselves in the foot in shooting down Haley? - Himm2 - 03-11-2014 For the American Idol results show on Thursday night, the numbers were the worst in the show’s history. They had a 2.2 adult rating (18-49 demo) and 9.71 million viewers. This is getting into The X Factor numbers and we all know that FOX did not renew that for another season! RE: Idol ratings drop -- Did they shoot themselves in the foot in shooting down Haley? - Tom22 - 03-11-2014 Idol's sucess or failure can't be looked at by what they do alone. Whether or not someone prefers or even likes The Voice, you can't argue that at least some people choose one or the other. People only have so much time in their lives.....and most people only have so much interest in a certain type of show. If 1/3 of potential idol viewers decided that they'd watch The Voice (and maybe the Voice also attracted some people who would have never watched idol) that's pretty sigfificant in terms of total audience before and after The Voice started. An Even bigger effect of The Voice ... by having mutiple seasons a year they create a fatigue of interest in the whole idea of amateur singing shows. Again thats not a "I don't".. its just a matter that millions.. even if it is 1/2 of who watch idol its still millions, of people get their fill of the singing and get so much of it they get tired of it. I know, that if I hadn't watched The Voice throughout the year I'd be so super eager to be watching idol out of a hunger for it. If the NFL played year round they wouldn't pull the same audiences for each football game either.....(well ok.. I don't think I'd be as interested in the playoffs if there were mutiple seasons a year) RE: Idol ratings drop -- Did they shoot themselves in the foot in shooting down Haley? - mercfan3 - 03-11-2014 The Voice spoils people more than that too. I think Idol fans have forgotten that rough performances happen. These kids are amateur. It's their first time singing in front of a huge crowd. First time using an ear piece. First time playing with a big band behind them. First time singing on television in front of millions. The Voice is a semi-pro show. Christina Grimmie has been on the billboard charts. Bria Kelly opened for Miranda Lambert and was on AGT. Paula DeAnda (?) sold 200,000 albums. You think they'll be a little more comfortable? And when they do have amateurs (and they've had some great ones in Danielle and Jacquie) They've got superstar coaches helping them out. Who do the idol contestants get to help them out? Randy. I know I'm fatigued, especially watching Idol. Many have said they like the honesty of Harry's critiques, and he has stated "I'm a judge not a mentor". However, why am I watching the show, if according to the judges they can't sing in tune, don't connect with the song or lyrics, don't move well on stage, and these are the best out of the 75,000 that auditioned? At least on The Voice we are entertained by the judges competing with each other, along with their enthusiasm for the singers on their team. Even if the contestants have extensive semi-pro backgrounds, most of America has not heard of them, which means they may have many of those skills Harry seems to think the Idol contestants do not have. The good news...Randy seems to be experiencing some payback, as his incompetence reveals itself in the mentoring role...Karma is a b*tch Randy! ![]() RE: Idol ratings drop -- Did they shoot themselves in the foot in shooting down Haley? - midnightblues - 03-12-2014 Dang I don't watch the voice or Idol Is Randy on the Voice? I thought he was in the unemployment line. RE: Idol ratings drop -- Did they shoot themselves in the foot in shooting down Haley? - mercfan3 - 03-13-2014 He's mentoring the poor kids on Idol. That's the problem. |
