A few posts back I mentioned that Crosby, Stills & Nash, "CSN" was my most precious album. My dad left me one hell of a vinyl record collection, but "CSN" was one of two unopened records, and I had never heard it. He handed it to me shortly before passing and told me to open it after he was gone. He said he prayed I could hear some things from it that he had always wanted to tell me but couldn't because I was too hard-headed to hear. I just finished listening to it again for only the second time in my life, the first time being on the 1st anniversary of his passing, and all I did then was cry. This time is different. I can't say that I'm finding much "beauty in the breakdown" yet Bluesman, but I do feel like I just gained 20 years worth of wisdom in only 2 hours of listening to and pondering the lyrics (in light of the things dad was able to teach me).
Here's the album in its entirety. Anyone who's never given it a good listen, I HIGHLY recommend it. Great lyrics, very tight musicianship (not just players of instruments, but musicians), beautiful melodies and some of the loveliest harmonies I've ever heard:

The second of the two unopened albums he left me is "Best of Bread". He told me not to get married until I found the man who mirrored the heart of the lyrics from that album, at least for the most part. Well, as we all know I'm still single <sigh>. The only man I've met like that from my generation is married to my best friend. (Good thing for her he's faithful- LOL- Just kidding- Sort of.

Thnx for sharing...such an intimate moment/story. It seems your Father found the language he needed to speak to you and that was music. Not meaning to be presumptuous, but it seems the gift he left you was a way to feel his comfort if you needed it.

. Day dreaming of the imaginary romance and wishful thinkings. The Best of Bread was a long time companion (although the teen aged 'rock and roller/metal fan' would never admit it )
